Another one looking for a backrub ... sheesh. So then, you are telling us these are nutritionally relevant?

This reminds me of the lady who asked what she could order from Dairy Queen at 3 weeks post op. If you are looking to validate the same old behavior, sorry, I am going to tell you my opinion. If you cannot see that as a contribution, then you have some of your own baggage to deal with.

I'll pass on your backrub, thanks.

Being an jerk to people seeking advice is not contributing to anything but YOUR ego. Trust me, I get it. I too get frustrated with people and their logic sometimes. Like the person who went to Taco Bell a week after surgery and "nibbled" on a corn chip. I was like "seriously?" but I'm not going to run them through the coals over it. It's their stomach and their lives and ultimately their demons they have to answer to. Our annoyance at them has nothing to do with them nor does it serve anyone to make them feel like an idiot or as someone who struggles any less than we ALL do.

I'm so glad you mentioned a dehydrator! I was wondering what veggie chips in a dehydrator turn out like? are they crunchy? or just...dry? I mean apart from spinach and kale and "light" things like that. What would happen to apples or carrots in a dehydrator?

Apples become delicious morsels of crunchy goodness in the dehydrator. I had a friend who would dehydrate all kinds of stuff including fish. Their house would smell horrible for a day but when it was done it was delicious and healthy.

I did Kale and it got crunchy and kinda dry but it didn't bother me. The flavor was great. The crunch DOES go away though as it sits out in the air. The same thing with chickpeas! I love putting chickpeas in the oven with seasonings and like, a drop of olive oil (to keep the seasonings on) for 45 mins in the oven. But once again as time goes on they stop having their crunch...

I don't know how to fix it. I haven't tried using the dehydrator afterwards or put them in the oven. I kinda just deal with it.

I did all of this pre-sleeve btw. I did apples and bananas because they were about to go bad and well, they took FOREVER and some were crunchy and some were rubbery. I'm not a master at it, lol. I think I probably put some too close. I only used my dehydrator about 4 times and one time was with to make Jerky - which was the BEST!!!

I am not annoyed with them at all. Quite the opposite, actually. I remember the demons of wanting to eat the way I wanted to. I still battle those demons as I mention in a recent post regarding a cruise I just went on. It is difficult to make these changes which we developed over a lifetime. But you have to know some folks are looking to validate behaviors down deep they know they need to change.

If you were at an alcoholic's anonymous meeting and someone who was struggling walked in with light beer asking if it was OK to drink it, how would you respond? Sometimes it's tough love.

Yummy this ^

i luuuurrrve Jade's recipes! Pre-sleeve, I used to make her fried rice. Simplest and best recipe I've ever tried. Post sleeve, we made her egg drop Soup with Tomato. SO good!

Actually they make roasted chickpeas in India for a snack but they're made in industrial ovens so I had no idea how to do it. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

we used to buy the veggie chips that looked like dehydrated veggies or something like that at central market. And then we found out they were fried. Ugh.

I don't think it's you. Everything I'm reading says put in airtight container, but really, eat them fast :P

I will have to experiment with smaller portions at a time so we can eat them fast in a house with two sleevers and one picky 13-year old.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
