Hi new here just sleeved a mth ago

Recommended Posts

I had the gastric sleeve august 21st of 2013. I have had a few problems at week two when I was supposed to start soft foods I ate some tuna and got sick. And was throwing up and couldn’t get fluids down. I ended up at the hospital for two days on an IV. When I went home I was on clear fluids for a day and then back to blended foods for a week. On week three I still wasn’t getting enough fluids in and ended up at the emergency room because every time I stood up I became dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. My DR said you have to drink more. I was only able to get 36 oz. in a day. I began forcing myself to drink even thought it was painful and giving me heart burn. I switched to Water and got rid of the heart burn drinking was causing. By The begin of week four I was feeling better drinking 50 to 60 oz. a day. I am now eating soft foods. I am finding that I can’t seem to tolerate canned meats unless their blended. I can’t tolerate eggs. I can’t tolerate Condiments with vinegar. Most meats give me heartburn. I can only drink water with just a few drops of flavor. Anything to sweet I get nauseated. I can drink cafix a coffee substitute and milk. I can no longer drink Protein Drinks they make me sick. I can eat yogurt, cheese, and apple sauce, cream of rice, Peanut Butter, Soup and crackers. It’s hard to try new foods because I don't know if I will tolerate them. I lost 10 lbs. the first week and then nothing for two weeks I was only getting like 600 calories in a day. On week four I was able to increase my calories to a 1000 and I lost 6lbs in week four. So in a month I have only lost 16 lbs. It's kind of discouraging. I guess I was hoping it would go faster. Any ways that’s where I am now. I don’t regret the surgery but I am definitely looking at food in a different way. It's no longer a enjoyment its a Necessity. I'm just trying to get all the calories, fluids and Protein I need so I can stay healthy and lose weight.

I'm sorry to hear you are having such problems. While I won't be sleeved for a couple of weeks yet, I have read similar accounts on this site. They all seem to have said the same thing, that time settles these issues. I hope the same is true for you.

glad to hear you are doing better too. I have my first appointment this week and I'm starting to get a little anxious.

Hi, and sorry to hear your having such a hard time! Some of us had a real easy transition from stage to stage (sleeves of steel) others like yourself don't get so lucky, but know you are still early out and things will get better!

Even though I had an easier time at a month out things still were not great, nausea sometimes drinking was hard.

Hang in there go very slow with your food and eat no more than 1/4 cup at a time until it gets better :)

Oh and I find it I drink a poweraid zero a day it helps with not only getting necessary fluids but also some potassium and electrolytes

And not dizzy as much :)

I am sorry your having a rough start. My biggest out the gate issue was weakness. Try to stick to the food phases. Don't rush the progress of what the sleeve can handle. My taste buds changes a lot. About 3 months out things were closer to normal. Its gonna get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
