Pre op preparing!

I am having my surgery November 26th. I'm wondering if anyone started their Vitamins ahead of time or did anything else to prepare ? I really want to maximize the weight loss so anything that helps is great!

Yes, go ahead and start your Vitamins now, for 2 reasons: getting used to taking them and to hopefully help with the Hair loss. I started taking a Multi-Vitamin about 2 months before my surgery (GNC hair, Nails, and Skins brand is good; about $20.00 for a month supply). Yes, I have had some hair loss, but not as bad as I thought it would be, and I like to think it has been because I got a jump start on the vitamins. As you know, Vitamin imbalances can cause weight gain, weight loss, fatigue, aches, etc. So, the better in balance your body is, hopefully it will help you heal quicker, maintain muscle, and lose weight steadily. Taking vitamins responsibly is always a good thing. I am 9 months out from my surgery and I faithfully take an Iron pill and 5000 mg Biotin once a day, and a hair/skin/nail Multivitamin 2 times a day. I have had labs done twice, and my numbers are perfect---no vitamin, iron, or any other deficiancies of any kind. Of course, for at least a month after your surgery, you won't be able to swallow a pill, so prepare to buy liquid vitamins or be prepared to crush up (nasty) and swallow your pills. But, you will have to do this, so just prepare yourself. If you go the crushed up pill route, mix it with a spoonful of applesauce and it will go down lots easier. Best wishes!!!

My surgery is scheduled for 10/10 and I have been getting prepared by ordering product samples and trying them out. I started having a Protein Shake for Breakfast and taking a chewable multivitamin a couple days ago. I think easing myself into everything prior to surgery will help with all the changes post-op.

Yeah, start taking them now. Also look for ones that are liquid or disslove in your mouth. I had a rough time with the nasty taste of crushed pills especially the acid reducers!

I highly recommend getting an Omega fish oil also. Helps with hair loss. They will have you stop taking it 7 days before surgery because its a blood thinner.

I bought a brand called "Brelean's" at Vitamin Shoppe. It's a liquid like yogurt. I got the orange and it tastes like a dreamsicle. My 6 year old picky eater loves it also. No fishy smell or taste.

Take 10000mcg of B12. It will help with your energy FOR sure! I was only doing 500& had no energy. I asked my doc for the shots and she told me to do 1000mcg cuz it's the same. I can totally tell. It took a week to notice though. Those come dissolving also. I got mine at Walmart.

I get the Calcium carmel chews and do them twice a day.

One multi Vitamin & Iron pill a day.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

Good tip on the Omega fish oil. Everyone says to take Biotin but there seems to be some controversy about whether or not it helps with Hair loss. Can't hurt to try both right? :)

I started taking Vitamins and Protein Shakes as soon as I found out I was accepted into the program. I have a 6 month waiting period, I started (in June) taking 1 pill each day of hair, Skin and Nails, sublingual B-12, women's one a day Multi Vitamins, calcium citrate w/500 mg of Calcium. I'm hoping for a December surgery date. I also drink 100% whey 1x a day and will soon go up to 2x's a day.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
