does anyone know if they drug test before surgery?

My surgery is scheduled for sept 30 and I quit smoking (marijuana, i never smoke cigarettes) about a week ago. Please don't judge I need real answers. Thank you!

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure weed doesn't show up in a regular blood test, or I would have been busted before. As long as you don't smoke between here and then you should be ok.

i think it depends on the surgeon. i am pretty sure that my surgeon does and if you are positive he makes you do a substance abuse program before surgery. to be on the safe side drink all the Water you can and try to get in some exercise. you could also go to a smoke shop and pick up something to clean your system.

Thanks! Will do, don't want to risk messging things up. Only 13 days until surgery. All pre surgical testing is complete I just need the ultrasound. Hopefully all is good.

I doubt your doc would spend the extra expense in testing unless he/she had reason to believe there was already something seriously wrong. Every test is expensive for them, so it adds up.

Usually not. I know you said you've quit- just keep that up bc marijuana does interact with many medications...

They probs won't test for drugs, but inhaling the smoke itself could cause ulcers after surgery, so you should consider quitting for life. No pressure! I've heard that even second-hand smoke isn't safe.

Many test ran....drug test included. may want to take a trip to the head shop just be be on the safe side or....just be honest, im sure its not the first time your doctor has heard it and it wont be the last.i do know those liquid 6 hour window drinks saved my butt a few times!

Before buying any cleanse take a trip to cvs and buy an at home drug test ($20). If it is out of your urine it's long out of your blood. It takes 3-30 days out of urine depending on some variables including amt smoked, regularity of smoking, fat/muscle composition, etc.

In all likelihood they will not drug test you for THC (marijuana). They will ask you many times about drug use of all kinds for use by the anesthesiologist. Before going in you may want to give some thought to your answer so you are not caught offguard.

There are very effective products at cleaning your system of THC indicators for urine tests. If you are going that route, then I would suggest doing so in the next 24 hours while you do your pre-op.

As I understand it, the products do not work well for clearing your system of THC indicators where you have a blood test. Saying that, the reliability of a blood test for THC is questionable beyond 72 hours and highly questionable beyond 7 days. If you anticipate a blood test only, then quitting two weeks ahead of time is ideal.

Best of luck on your surgery and your continued journey.

Just want to add, that although all the things listed my clear your system for the Surgeon to approve you I strongly urge you to be honest with your anesthesiologist. Some of the chemicals in marajuana can change the chemicals they use to put you under. Tell him when you quit and how often you used before. Trust me, you will not be his first patient to tell him ever, I highly doubt you'll be even his first of the day. Please take my word for it but if you're still hesitant, google marajuana and anesthesia. (Warning: only for the strong willed to look up....some of it what you'll read can cause nightmares!)

Good luck and good for you for being open enough to ask, most don't!

Myth. They don't "clean" your system. They dilute your urine. It's still a gamble.

I told my surgeon I smoked and he said don't smoke 2 weeks before or after. That's all. They don't care.

Actually, all the Water they tell you to drink dilutes your urine. Those "cleanse" things just try to mask the fact that you drank all the Water.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
