I did my first 5K today!

Recommended Posts

A year ago today I couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes without breaking into a sweat and needing to sit down. Today I finished my first 5K. :D The fastest guy in my age group finished it in 22 minutes - it took me 4 times as long but I finished it! What made this even more special was being able to walk it with people from my support group for which many was their first 5K as well.

I don't know if you realize that, but you are an inspiration to me. I love watching your MFP reporting the calories you are burning. Can't wait to join you! Congratulations. That was a BIG achievement.

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. For clarification, I didn't run anything - I came in 102 out of 102 participants with a time of 89 minutes because I walked. I got to spend a great time with people from my support group, wonderful memories, a t-shirt and got to keep my participant number, it's all I needed.

But in the back of my mind, of course i wondered if I could run it and wondered how long it would actually take me. Story to be continued... :D

Way to go Don. I salute your courage and determination. The fact that you covered the distance and enjoyed it is the only thing that matters. You have made great strides from your former self, and I have no doubt you will make many more. I hope you continue to sign up for more 5ks. The atmosphere is a great and the sense of accomplishment from finishing will be yours forever.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
