I think everyone is different as far as what they can tolerate. I can tolerate everything Ive tried. Salads dont give me a problem. I can actually fit in a good amount of lettuce but I make sure to put some chicken or shrimp or at least a hard boiled egg to capatilize on getting Protein in.

I haven't had any issue with lettuce (9 months out). I've had it like Bunny suggested, with some Protein. Turkey/chicken, shrimp and just this weekend a really good lobster salad YUM. I got the crunch of the salad with out adding too much.

I had my first salad at 3.5 months out. It was a chopped salad from Panera (steak and blue cheese) and it was so freaking good!!! OH EM GEE!! I never realized how much I would miss a stinking salad until I finally had one. I can eat a lot more of it than I thought, too, so it made me nervous at first. As soon as I ate the roast beef on it, I was full. DELISH!!

My kids prefer chopped salad so that's what we are making at home now, too!

I can tolerate salads easily. I'm 3 months post op. I do like the others, and add Protein to it, so I get mostly protein, and some lettuce.

I am 4 months post op and just started adding salads back into my diet. I make sure there is plenty of Protein and eat the salad slowly. Though I make "half a salad" I still eat half of that and it takes about 90 minutes to eat. I enjoy salads and am glad to get back into eating them while it is still warm outside (don't like them much in the winter)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
