So you are about to change your life!!! Congrats!!! You will be meeting your goal before you know it!

I wouldnt bring a bunch of stuff to the hospital but a few things that I found helpful was Biotene Dry mouth spray (for when you cant drink yet) it helps a LOT! Also some gas X strips are a great thing to have!

Hope to hear great things in your future!

the biotene, ditto! gas strips too. I took my phone, a laptop, a comfy change of clothes, a pair of disposable flip flops and I think some reading material, a pillow and blankie, some basic toiletries and that's about it. But I was just miles from home and had my Spouse, a visiting sister, two cars and friends willing to help out at a moments notice. If you are far from home you may need to pack better.

If you are on any meds that you will continue to take, ask the doctor how he wants to proceed on you bringing your prescription IN, not filled at pharmacy. I know several people that got hit for extra cause they had to supply their daily meds from the hospital pharmacy.

There's a BIG thread with suggestions. Pack and move most of it back to the dresser and closet. Take your CPAP (if you have one) and a robe. Everything else is optional!

I took a pillow for the ride home, very important! I also took a small soft blankie that smelled great like home. My Kindle, cell phone and way to many nightgowns. They really had everything I needed except the pillow for the ride home.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
