I need serious help with support

Recommended Posts

I was sleeve back in June 2012 and I've lost about 70lbs, which is great, however, since January 2013, all I've been doing is eating bad things and I'm basically out of control and I have now gained back 10lbs. I need to find a support group or something. The hospital I went to offers a support group but it's only once a month and I think I need it more like once a week or twice a week. I don't know what to do. I have depression so that makes me an emotional eater, which I've always been. I have no self control. I should be down more at this point. My current weight is about 165lbs, which isn 't bad but that's not where I want to be. Can anyone relate or help me figure out what to do. I'm already on meds for depression and I can't go up on them anymore and I don't really want to change them.

Thank you for your help.

Diane

I'd talk to your psychiatrist (if you have one) and see if you can get into therapy. It's a good sign that you can admit to yourself you need help with this and that's always the first step. You've got to take control of this now before it gets out of hand, and there is no reason to suffer because of it.

Just find a qualified professional (therapist/psychologist) who can help you get through this and has your best interest in mind. Sometimes, while family means well...they often become enablers without realizing it, or exacerbate a situation because they either didn't realize there was a problem, or they have no idea what to do to fix/help it.

Stay strong.

Hey! Maybe seeing your hospitals nutritionist would help. have a consult with him/her and see if you can come in weekly for weight and diet checks. just an idea. i know that weekly weigh-ins help me a lot. Congrats on your loss so far

as well as jmacvg's comments above, I would recommend checking out your local OA chapter. More frequent meetings and the kind of support you're probably looking for.

You all are great. Thanks for the suggestions and I'll work on those options because I didn't come this far to gain it all back. I've had a lifetime of being overweight and waited 42 years for a surgery like this! Love to you all

I agree with everyone's post about getting some weekly support. Just another suggestion...I have two friends who ad the surgery last year and were in the same boat as you. I ran into one of them recently and to my surprise she was coming from a WW meeting! I was like, how are you on WW? You prob can't eat all the points they require. She told me that they have another plan that they don't really advertise where you can basically eat Protein, veggies, dairy and fruit...without counting points. She also said that the weekly support groups helped her. She was losing again and she seemed much happier than the last time I saw her.

I am not promoting the WW program...just sharing a friend's experience in case it helps! Hang in there! You've come a long way and you've lost a lot of weight. Celebrate your success so far. I wish you well!

Thank you Karnie. I was actually thinking about that too. I really need to nip this in the bud now. I have just made an appointment with the nutritionist I has before surgery. I just have to so something.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
