Did you keep a "before" outfit?

Recommended Posts

I cleaned out my closet yesterday. It was a NSV for me, after losing almost 60 pounds I was still wearing my "before" clothes. I was hoping for that moment when you raise your hands and your pants fall down, but I guess because all my clothes were knits with elastic waists, they expanded with me when I gained weight and contracted with me as I have been losing! So back to the closet.... I had saved a bunch of clothes for years hoping to have them fit when I lost weight "some day". I tried a bunch on and expected them to not zip, and boy was I surprised when they fit and some even looked good! I spent the rest of the day doing 6 loads of laundry since the "new clothes" had been in a dusty closet for at least 3 years. My question is to those folks who have lost a significant amount of weight. Did you save a "fat outfit"? Something in your top size to help remind you of where you started? I'm trying to decide if it is worth it, or if I should just ship them all off to the local charity and be done with it. Any insight would be most appreciated!

I'm pre-sleeve but lost about 35 pounds a few years ago before a back injury. 35 isn't that much but on a small framed person like me it made a huge difference. I held onto my favorite outfit from when I was at my biggest. Unfortunately that outfit fits me just fine now...Lol. But when I was losing and dropping sizes it was a good inspiration...especially if I had a day where I didn't "feel" like I was being successful. Fully intend to hold onto it again. and good for you on such an awesome and exciting NSV!!!

I saved a pair of my size 26 jeans- the ones I wore to my first day of orientation for my bariatric program. Everything else has happily been donated to a women's shelter.

I haven't held on to any of my fat clothes, got rid of 3 garbage bags full of clothes a couple months ago, and have been accumulating a pile of get rid of clothes as I pull them out of the closet and try them on and decide they look ridiculous. I had some skinnier clothes in the attic that I'm glad I had saved. I do still have my kilt from my bagpipe band, that could count as my fat clothes. I am going to need to have it altered, so I won't have it as a reminder after that.

I've been giving my stuff away to my sisters & nieces. I'm still getting stuff together to get rid. While i don't plan on keeping any before stuff, me watching them wear my clothes is more than a reminder & motivation because I always thought I was much, much smaller than they were. What an eye opener this sleeve has been.

I did not save any of my larger sizes, I needed the room in my closet to put my smaller sizes. I'm only 6 weeks out, but have lost enough to start needing smaller sizes. I have bagged up the larger sizes and will be donating them soon. I found a few pairs of capris that I bought on sale a couple of years ago that I had packed away, but they fit for now. I live in the south, so I have been shopping the clearance racks for some good buys to get me through my current need, knowing that I will be shopping again in the spring for my next smaller sizes. I even bought a few things that were great bargains to pack up for my future use!

Did you keep a "before" outfit?

no :(

after goal (105 lbs down), i went to Kohl's where i always bought my 2X blue jeans

i knew exactly where to go in the plus size to find the jeans :(

i picked up the 2X i always bought

"standard jeans" type with elastic waist band

took into the changing room, put on over my "new and improved" size 4

i just stared at myself in shock and sadness :(

i realized what i used to look like

but thats "behind" me

I then bought the jeans

they will always hang in my closet as a reminder

only looking forward - enjoying my healthier, happier life :)

Catherine - 57 lbs down :o

woo hoo

happy dance, happy dance :)

keep up the good job

congrats

I'm on the fence about this because I'm just not sure if this is really the last time I will ever be obese. I have lost and gained so much weight over the years and I just really want this to be the last time I have to go in that closet and pull out a pair of size 44 pants. After 6 weeks I can now wear size 40 so I'm getting smaller but everyday I still wonder will there ever be a day I wake up and have to go back in that closet and pull the 44 size out. At one point when I lost 94 lbs on my own I had to bag up all my big clothes and then I stored them away in my storage. Less than 5 years later I was back to wearing clothes from the bag. I pray every day that we can all remain healthy and never have any set backs.

I saved a pair of levis and a T shirt. It's worth the space in your closet. Whenever you have downer day - just pull those out and put them on = instant attitude adjustment.

I had those eye opening moments too. Why is that we don't see ourselves at our true size? Well that is a whole different topic and post!

I have saved a pair of my jeans and a top. For me it's a reminder hanging there of what I never want to be again ever. My jeans were a 32 and my top was a 30.. They take up more room in the wardrobe than smaller clothes!!

I kept just one shirt and one pair of jeans from my highest weight which was 85 lbs more than now. Some of the other big clothes were hard to pass on, like the shirt I was wearing when I held my youngest newborn Granddaughter but memories are in your heart and your head so you don't need those clothes.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
