Finally getting somewhere!

Just talked to program coordinator, I CAN do my 6 months supervised weight loss with my PCP. But I would still need to see they're dietician for 1 visit and pay $175 out of pocket. Then they include the psych eval at no charge. Big relief! Once I satisfy those 2 things, the union will open my surgery benefit! Such a pain in the butt! 8 months working on this, now another 6 more!

I had insurance through the Iron Workers Union. I started the process with my referral from my PCP last November. I was just sleeved Aug. 26th. I know it is a long process but time does fly. Just think of all the research and knowledge about the process you'll have prior to. I stuck to my guns and lost 23 lbs prior to my 2 week pre-op diet. I lost another 15 during the 2 week pre-op diet. As of this morning (9 days post-op) I am 246 lbs. Total loss so far.....43 lbs.

If you start dieting and exercising asap you'll be that much further ahead in the end.

Good Luck to you.

That's fabulous and encouraging! Thank you!

That was another question. My start weight is 260, BMI 41, with 3 co-morbidities. If I do we'll doing the 6 month diet, they're not going to be like oh well she can diet and lose the weight, and deny me?

Been hit by like 3 walls already, so upsetting when they call me and say well there's a problem... Etc.

Kayel8ch, you're a trooper......most of us have hit little bumps along the way, but sounds like you've had some hills to overcome.....seems like you are well on your way.....don't let the 6 month frustrate you too much.....it'll go by quicker than you think.

As far as the weight loss and denying you, I don't know your insurance, but my approval was based on my initial weight with my surgeon and physician (physician had to write a letter of necessity with weight included--not sure what the surgeon wrote). Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
