PTTD Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Anyone diagnosed with PTTD? I think it really sucks! I guess it's caused by a weak tendon in your ankle and then its all down hill from there. Just wondering if anyone else is coping or maybe has success over this? It's so frustrating that I have lost all this weight and I still have physical limitations.

Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD)

http://www.foothealthfacts.org/footankleinfo/pttd.htm

This is a good website for alot of information on feet, BTW.

Don't assume you have this, this type of pain can be caused by several different things, they all need to be diagnosed and then treated as soon as possible, however.

Thanks LI Gemini for the video! The music was a little over the top, though :-) PTTD is Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction. Basically my arch has fallen in my left foot and my foot comes down on its side rather than the bottom of the foot. It is incredibly painful and I have had to give up the treadmill which I really enjoyed. I'm starting physical therapy on Friday, hopefully this will help. The good news is that my weight loss has continued.

I am an Orthotist Prosthetist- have you been evaluated for an Ankle Foot Orthosis?

If your pttd is grade 2 you may be able to get away with a ucbl which is a little "brace" that goes in your shoe-usually made of plastic.

If grade 3 or above it's usually an ankle foot orthosis which can be light weight & springy. We frequently recommend a spring leaf type AFO. Or a carbon style ( like the allard toe off or similar)AFO paired with an ucbl.

I hope you find relief- it's out there.

Hey Rebeca,

I've been seeing an orthopedic surgeon that specializing in ankles at the world renowned (rolling my eyes now :-) Northwestern University. It's where I was sleeved. I would like to know what stage I am, a number has never been mentioned to me. I have specially made orthotics for both shoes and I have a brace that I lace up and Velcro on my ankle. I start physical therapy Friday. Everything that I have read about it pretty much says it only gets worse. My orthopedic says he sees this a lot in bariatric patients and that I have horrible mechanics? I really enjoyed the treadmill and going for long walks and for now at least, that's impossible. I really do appreciate your advice and feedback.

Thanks,

Nicky

I actually trained at the Northwestern Orthotics & Prosthetics Center at the Feinberg School of Medicine downtown Chicago campus.

Sounds like you're on the right track.

Yes, PTTD has no cure per se. It will only get worse without treatment.

Yes, many obese people get it but regular people get it too. It does have to do with your gait & biomechanics.

If you ever want somebody to chat with or explain things feel free to pm me, I am from a family run O&P facility so I can do what I want.

Do you have O & P insurance coverage? Some of the really awesome "cadalliac" orthosis are very very expensive, they work great & are easy to fit. The "chevy's" work the same just more work for your Orthotist & less $$$ so they talk you into the more expensive item.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
