I didnt get anything either. My hubby is away with his mates on their yearly 'piss up' ( pardon the language). There are 8 of them and for the past 6 years they go every valentines day!!! weird.. They are all married but choose to do that male bonding thing.

Dr Tran wants me to have respiratory function tests due to the MS. Im really worried.... if i fail them on the 28/2 the chances of booking me in for sleep studies would be bugger all i would think prior to my intended op on the 9th march.... im stressing now!!! I dont/ cant mentally postpone this... im ready now

Bronnie I had sarcoidosis so had the respitory function tests also (i went to box hill hospital because it was the quickest to get into for the tests) - it's for our own good (they still do the op but know what extra precautions to take for your saftey whilst under). Don't stress too much! Think positive and good things will come your way :)

Bronnie any chance you can book in for the sleep study now in anticpation and then cancel if you don't need it??? I'mnot sure how these things work though, so it might not be possible.

So our dinner out was lovely. I had a yummy fettucini with bacon and sundried tomatoes and chicken. I brought 2/3 of it home with me of course, so we both get to take some for lunch tomorrow. Then we went round and saw my folks to show them our new car we picked up today. I had such a fantastic valentine's day....and its not over yet hehehehe

I think if the respiratory tests arnt great they would do the same precautions as for the people that have abnormal sleep studies... i hope so anyway

Im going to leave things as is....

Hi bronnie

I understand your concerns but knowledge is power! They really do need to make sure that if the ms has caused some weakness they can manage it. Are you privately insured?? the wonders of the private health system make it less likely that your surgery would be delayed- if it is, then I am sure it will not be a long delay. Its all worth it to make sure you are safe.

Jsut keep plodding one foot in front of the other- you will get there

Hi all

And happy valentines day to you all.. hope it was a romantic one :) Meredith..your dinner sounded yummy .I had to work so no such luxury for me :phanvan .. all i got were a couple of lousy text msgs lol

Bronnie..don't stress too much. I am sure it will,as always, come together for you. If they know your op date maybe they will work around that. My sleep test was booked in pretty much straight away and i am a public patient so i am sure IF you have to have one you will do it all in the required time frame.

Dionnem..not long to go! These next couple of days will fly by for you..Make the most of your mum being there you lucky girl.

Susannah..wanna bet this time next year you will be beating all those "Mr Wonderful" guys off with a big stick cos u will have too many to choose from ? :D

Jacqui..hope you had lots of fun with the girls.. did u wake your hubby up? lol :)

have a good one tomorrow and stay cool

Yeh... got the MRI results... they showed that the MS has only slightly progressed compared to 10 years ago so i was really happy with that...

Day 1 of Optifast and im determined. Im putting 'myself' on it for 3 weeks pre-op. i think if all you had to do it... i will too.

Im going to try and drop a few kg and excersise from now until the 28/2 so i can hopefully get through the Respiratory function tests okay.

Bronnie starting Optifast and exercise on the same day isn't recommended usually if your not used to the exercise. You might faint, at minimum you will fill nauseated from the low calories and expendature of even more calories... do one or the other for a few days before starting the other if you feel like your going to pass out today.

Also don't go too far from a bathroom... first 3 days of Optifast + long walk (say 5km) = explosive bowels until you've cleared out your normal stomach contents. I know TMI but i thought id warn you since I would have loved somebody to warn me! I warned my parents but they didn't believe me and both suffered and said I didn't warn "strongly enough" lol. On the flip side no exercise or not much movement ends in constipation... if that happens they tell you to mix benefiber in with your optifast drink.

Good luck though and get that exercise in - it helps better prepare you for the surgery.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
