Recommended Posts

Help, I an scared and need your thoughts. What are the stats or information of people being sleeved then becoming anorexic? I just don't like food and scared to eat, I feel if I eat I will get fat...starting to have panic attacks at the thought of eating. Went a few day with out even eating, cause I was not hungry then got very dizzy and weak....Feeling a little lost....I am 7months out....

It sounds like you would do very well calling a therapist, one that's deals with disordered eating preferably..

getting therapy through weight loss is crucial if you are dealing with eating disorders (which a lot of us are)

Good luck to you,

Laura

Second Laura-Vens opinion. It's crucial to deal with the head issues post-op.

I third that suggestion! I spent time in therapy a few years back with an eating disorder group - interestingly enough I guess binge eating/overfilling are similar in some respects to anorexic/restrictive behaviors clinically. Hang in there - our surgery was only on our stomachs - the work on the head is all on us ;)

ALL eating disorders are related - overeating AND anorexia included. The bottom line is that we don't have a normal relationship with food, and we must be constantly on guard for dealing with this. Yes, seeing a therapist is critical. I am 6 months out and have started having some anxiety around eating - I have a regular appointment with a psychiatrist for anxiety, and I plan to bring this up with him at our next session.

At times I do worry about going from one extreme to the other. Preop I was a binge eater. I had no concept of portion size and to me more was better. Now at times I find myself thinking I'm not hungry. I could probably go for days without eating.

I don't let myself because of other health issues that would greatly suffer from me not eating. But it is frightening for me to think about testing it. If it ever gets to where I am seriously considering trying it I will go to counseling. I think transfer addiction is one of the biggest things we need to be mindful of. We are addicts through and through. And we need to stay vigilant about not finding a new way for us to get our "high".

yes, I should prolly look into counseling, cause I do go a few days at a time without eating, and when I do I seem to get a panic attack....My trainer is talking about not training me anymore if I don't start eating more and add carbs, but "Carbs' scare me....

Yes I agree with the others that counseling at this point is needed.

We offend don't need counseling because we are messed up in the head or anything. It's because we have an issue that we can't work out on our own and having that unbiased advise and guidance will help us through the issue.

Carbs are not scary. Empty carbs are not good but the body does need some carbs. Especially for energy. Vegetables are a good source of the good carbs. Processed foods are bad carbs. At your next meal try to add two slices of cucumber or a couple florets of broccoli. Maybe do broccoli and a few slices of red bell peppers. You don't want your body to enter starvation mode because then any calories or fat or carbs will be stored as fat. But please please don't skip meals.

Not to diminish the importance of counseling as recommended by all the other responses, but I want to specifically speak to you on the importance of eating (good) carbs. Good slow burning carbs are a must for training. Without them, your training time and effort is being flushed down the toilet. I know how hard it was to switch from a low carb mind set during the first 6 months to using carbs as energy for working out after weight loss is done. It took a little time and convincing to eat carbs myself. If you are training and otherwise working out, these carbs are not going to cause a weight gain. Seriously. Want to know how much carb I eat on a training day? A lot! I eat a bowl of steel oats mixed with Protein powder, several energy squares (good carbs), beet salad and other carbs up until training in the afternoon (eating as much as possible). That was just today. I am basically over clocking my glycogen stores so I can go into overdrive during training. i hope this helps. And my weight has stayed consistent for months while eating all these carbs. I would say for about 8 months now (leaned out too). Try and understand the importance of eating every day not only for fueling your body for working out, but also for fueling your mind. Eating will keep your metabolism burning hot and furious.

Do you log what you eat on MyFitnessPal or something similar? It might help you to physically see in numbers what you're eating, so you can reassure yourself it's not too much. Helps me a lot.

Good to see you are working on the carb fear.

Yes, one meal at a time. I was actually wondering how you were doing. I hope you continue getting good carbs and are working through your fears about eating.

I just saw this post. I happen to be a RN, and I work in a inpatient eating disorders center. I have noticed an increase of people being admitted with a history of gastric bypass, no sleeves yet...but I totally understand. They say exactly what you said. It is a big deal. I have seen some extremely sick ladies. Please get help as soon as possible.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
