Did you need someone to stay with you post-op?

Recommended Posts

When you get back home, do you need someone to stay with you after you've had the surgery? I don't really have much of a support system and I think I'll be on my own after I get driven home after the surgery.

I would say it was nice, but not really necessary for my mom to stay. She only stayed one night in the hospital with me and one at home.

My hubby went to work as usual the next day. I was on my own. not only was I alone I had to drive myself to the er . Then my husband and son took off to Disney for the week it was just me and my dog. So no you will be fine.

It's nice to have "help" but I felt rude because I could only stay awake for 2 to 3 hours. I'd wake up, take my medicine & try to drink as much as possible or eat a SF Popsicle & be ready for bed again. If your helper isn't real close to you it may be awkward & annoying.

I was in the hospital 1 night. My daughter picked me up after work about 5pm and brought me home and stayed a couple hours. I had everything I thought I would need ready for a few days. I slept ALOT the 1st couple of days home and then took naps the next few days. So all was good with no one staying with me.

I had no problems and actually flew home by myself two days afterwards. having someone in the hospital that first day would have been nice, but i managed.

I was wondering the same thing, I will most likely be kept company for about an hour after I get home, but I suspected I would be fairly groggy throughout the rest of the day anyway. The weenie dogs can keep me company so long as they don't try to lay on my belly!

I live by myself and after my two nights in the hospital was on my own. I did fine. Just take it slow and be careful. I made sure I had everything I thought I would need easily accessible. My mother did drop me off and stay with me a few hours, which was welcome, but after she left I was by myself.

I live alone...told no one about my surgery...I made it. It would have been nice to have someone there, but I made it solo!

Its NICE to have someone supportive with u afterwards. If I dopped somehting, hubby was there to pick it. He hauled the laundry cuz I couldn't lift, kept the sog occupied so she wasn't jumping all over me, and even did the dishes the first week. 4 yrs ago following my lapband, my brother in law (before getting married 20 mths ago) stayed with me for s aweek.

If nothing else its nice to have someone else to whine to about the pain!

But Im sure ull do fine by urself. Its just a bonus if u have another body there

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
