Recommended Posts

Hiya guys...almost a month out...doing fantastic, weight is dropping off but doctor says I need to increase protein..I simply cannot consume more than a few spoonfulls without being completely full. Today I got a B12 shot cause I am wiped out, he says Protein will help that..how far along were you guys when you started to be able to eat like 6 ounces? any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks !!!

My Dr said don't expect to eat that much until almost a year out. At least 6 months but probably a year.

Have you tried pureeing your Protein again? Maybe that will help you get more down.

I can eat 6 ounces at 10 weeks out, but it takes me about 30 minutes to do so. What I do so that I can get my Protein in and not get too full is that I use a stopwatch timer on my phone, and I take one bite every 5 minutes. When I do this, I can consume enough protein and calories so I feel like a human, and I do not get too full.

At 2 weeks out (same day I went back to work) I could do greek yogurt and cottage cheese. Granted the 6 oz lemon greek yogurt took a couple of hours to eat and the 4 oz cottage cheese about 30 mins or so. I just had them in a desk drawer and took a spoonful every now and then.

You can also do Soups and stir in unflavored (note - not tasteless) Protein Powder.< /p>

Oh one thing about yogurt!! Greek yogurt that is...

A lot of the big food companies are jumping on to the Greek yogurt train (new buzz word you know) and making fake Greek yogurt. Read your labels!

Fage is real there are a couple of other brands too but I've not tried them all First I do 2% because I'm not opposed to a little fat in my diet. But the 0% tastes ok too, I just feel it doesn't stick with me that long ( I eat this as a meal not a snack)

Things like Danon light and fit greek? Be careful with all the ingredients including cornstarch to thicken it

(Not a true Greek yogurt) same with the yoplait Greek not true Greek it's milk Protein concentrates and Gelatin, bean locust gum to thicken....

Oh I must say its plain Greek yogurt!

So not sweetened.

I do put a little stevia in it and because I'm further out and frozen blueberries too :D

But newly sleeved people can do stevia (or splenda) with vanilla extract or some people like the sugar free Torani (sp?) syrups.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
