Suggestion for the vets forum

Recommended Posts

Alex, I have a suggestion for the veterans forum that I think will both increase the traffic there, as well as cut down on non veteran related threads. I think the "6 months/100 posts" rule doesn't quite cover things. I propose a 1 year post op OR being within 15 pounds of goal to qualify....and by qualify I mean to start a new thread there.

I also feel that responding to threads should be opened up to all post ops provided they are answering the OP and not just throwing in their own off topic question. I feel that many people who are no where near goal may still have something to offer in some of those threads. After all many of them deal with real life beyond surgery, and we are all veterans in that area.

The vets forum has become a "ask a vet" forum lately...

As for not starting a new thread I agree especially when it's not really a vet issue.

Like "yay I'm six months I'm a vet! I'm in a stall what should I do"

I think these are good suggestions.

I was also wondering if there should be a statement pinned at the top asking people to not start new threads unless they are veterans.

My main concern is keeping vets around, keeping them posting and if this forum becomes essentially the same as the general support group, I think vets will fade away....

Maybe we need an "ask a vet" forum. It could be the opposite of what I suggested above...anyone could start a thread, but only vets could respond. Maybe we don't really need that but when I was pre-op and reading all this conflicting crazy advice on these boards, I would have loved this.

Interesting...

Yes I can see that.

But you know Alex wanted to make a question and answer section for the most commonly asked things and the "appropriate" answers, for the new forum. But no one really stepped up to help with gathering the most common asked questions and answers.

Uh.....

I haven't lost weight in 5 minutes....what do I do?

How much weight did you lose in your first 2 days after surgery?

Do I really have to exercise?

When can I eat twinkies again?

Any more?

Umm...

Why am I hungry?

Why can I eat a whole yogurt (taco, cheeseburger, etc)

I'm a slow loser help!

How long does it take to take 100 pounds off..

Why do I have to watch what I eat! Also known as.. I didn't get this surgery to be on a diet the rest of my life.

Oh and why are you vets so mean!

That second to the last one is not a question. That's just hunger talking.

Aren't all of our questions and answers just hunger talking??

Dude I want a donut! :P

Yes, I don't think policing the forum is what I'm asking, just an adjustment in the posting guidelines. Although there has been more enforcement in the men's room/powder room lately so why not in the vets forum? I nominate Cowgirl Jane.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
