Hi All

I have had a good run of the first month and lost 15kg or just over 30lbs. I am terrified that my restriction will not last. I know this is silly but I think the fact that once the swelling goes down in the sleeve, what you can eat is still only a little but considerably more than before. Can anyone share their experience on the topic. My mind tells me that my capacity is gone forever and only 15-20% left but my fear makes me paranoid. Am I just a basket case or is this a general concern?

Could guys that are further out let me know how they felt and are feeling now.

This truly is an exiting journey!

You will be able to eat more, but always less than before. THEN the issue is what do you eat. You can eat chips, and candy and junk all day long and "defeat" the sleeve. You can eat Protein and veggies and win the race!

You will still have restriction later on. You might go to the Veteran's forum and read the posting there. That will give you a lot of information to prepare for maintenance.... Stop worrying about all this stuff and eat healthy and the majority of your diet high Protein with veggies... Sit back and enjoy the ride, this is the time......... Any questions please feel free to PM me....I'm almost 2 years post op....:P

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
