Im Having second Thoughts

Recommended Posts

I'm having sec thoughts about the surgery now, maybe its because after my consult the paperwork they sent me home with about the risks and such diluted my brain. Idk I was so sure @ first and no one could talk me out it. Now I'm worried and reading some of these threads about some regrets makes it worse anyone not sleeved yet feeling me?

This is a big decision. Should be on board 100% before you go through with this surgery. If the info is that alarming I would do more research before taking the plunge. Good Luck. Your life will be changed forever after surgery.Linda

My surgery is scheduled for September 3rd, the day after Labor Day! Everyone has second thoughts as they internally debate having the surgery. This is a good thing because surgery is not an every day occurrence.

It took me almost an entire year of searching the Internet for information before I attended the Monmouth Bariatric's seminar. Fortunately my wife is a nurse who works with several nurses who had sleeves and very positive outcomes.

I also have attended several group meetings with post-op Sleevers and Lap-Banders who shared their experiences and made me comfortable with proceeding. You should check with your physician to locate a similar group near you and attend some meetings.

Surgery is serious business, so is being overweight with associated medical issues. For me, the choice of losing weight, diabetes, high blood pressure, and not being a walking pharmacy put me over the top in favor of having the surgery AND permanently changing my diet.

Enough about me, This is not easy, you have to want the procedure and be ready to live with the dietary changes before having the surgery. If not, then wait and research what would be best for you. Good Luck and keep coming back for more information and personal stories.

Just so you know, the rate of complications from sleeve surgery is actually VERY SMALL. Unfortunately, people who have had problems seem to outweigh those of us who are very happy with their sleeves. I guess the problem-free people aren't posting enough.

For me, I LOVE MY SLEEVE! I have had no complications, no pain, no nausea or vomiting. If I didn't have 5 little scars on my tummy and an inability to eat very much, I might think the whole thing never happened. I am 3 months post op, down 52 lbs, diabetes and high blood pressure pills down 1/4 and I feel fabulous!

I was on a one-way train to diabetes complications (neuropathy), and increased heart disease. The sleeve saved me from a miserable future and gave me my life back.

There is a saying in Overeaters Anonymous -- "when the pain of where you are is greater than the fear of where you are going, that's when you will make a change." If that's not where you are, perhaps you need to think about this surgery a little longer. It will be here when you are ready.

Thanks Cindy, your message is greatly appreciated and speaks to why "we" are surgically changing our lives, bodies, and most importantly our minds for the rest of our lives.

For me the fear of oncoming medical problems due to being obese was my call to decisive action.

The number of people who have complications post surgery is small yes, but an even smaller number of those folks are those who have had complications and regret having the surgery. If you dig around through the complications forum you'll see even though people there have endured some serious difficulties, most of them at the end of the day would have done WLS again if given the chance at a do-over. You definitely have to weigh the risks you face going under the knife versus staying the way you are. For me this surgery was a no-brainer because I had tried and failed to lose the weight every other way and my future as fat looked bleak. Best wishes.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
