How long can you go until your 1st fill?

Recommended Posts

If it's not broke...don't fix it! That's a saying we use around here in Texas...LOL!

I waited about 6 weeks, I think...

Every journal is a personal one...make it work for you, and go for a fill when you are ready.

I have been asking the same question. It varys on everyone. I am the type of person who retains Water and I heard if your tissue is swollen, your band is swollen, so I was thinking if that had anything to do with it. I am post op day 8 and love my natural restriction and hope to keep it as long as possible. I am making my 6 week post op fill appointment just in case though.

I have also read about people who go through "bandster hell" and are starving and can eat in the first 6 weeks.

If you aren't hungry and you are losing you don't need a fill. There are some lucky patients who have natural restriction even if the band doesn't have any saline. I would hold off and wait to see if you get more hunger or if you stop losing. My 2cents. Good luck.

I'm beginning to believe that I am one of those people. I am three months post-op, but so far I have had good natural restriction. My surgeon told me that as long as I am losing 5-10# a month he won't give me a fill -- that he will wait until my weight loss slows down.

From what I have read here, I feel like I have 'sweet spot' restriction. I can eat a small (translate: reasonable) amount of healthy food, I am not hungry, I am learning what satisfied feels like, and I don't crave 'crap'. I have slimed when I eat too fast without chewing enough and if I try to eat bread or something like that, I invariably end up with that golf ball feeling folks describe.

I am going to enjoy it while it lasts...

I was banded on 12-11, i lost about 27 pounds, i am feeling hungry, but thenurse told me that u need to eat Protein and that will make you feel full. If I get hungry I will try to get it sooner. I live in Texas, DR Carter banded me

Hi,

I'm due for my first fill at the end of April - so that's 5 months from the op. I got my op on the NHS in Scotland so I have to take whatever appointments are given to me.

It seems a hell of a long time to wait though. I have no restriction and it's sheer willpower that's stopping me from eating like I was before the band, but I do fall off the wagon here and there.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
