Nervous about a stall already

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on August 7th. I am currently 12 days post op. My doctor told me at my post op appt that I could start eating soft foods. I barely eat anything but have not lost any weight in the last 6 days. I lost 9lbs the first week and my scales seem to have gotten stuck!!! I am starting to get discouraged. Has this happen to anyone else???

I am exactly the same as you. I'm 14 days out and in the last week I've moved only 2 lbs. but for 4 days I stalled. I'm hoping this is normal too. I just didn't think I would have a stall this early on either. But Do your measurements. Have they changed?

I haven't done my measurements but I definitely should though. This is getting discouraging. My husband said he was going to hide the scales from me because I am on them constantly!!!

I stalled at 2 weeks for 3 weeks total- then started loosing again. It happens all the time. I am down 65lbs since march. Try to relax. It will happen. Even when I don't lose pounds I am loosing inches.

Thanks so much! This is encouraging to know that I am not the only one. When I read posts about how much people lost in the 1st month then see my scale stuck - it makes me wonder what I am doing wrong. Thankful to know others have experienced the same. I think I will let me husband hide the scale and just keep pressing on. Thanks again!

Jana...I had the exact same thing happen to me. 1st week 9.5 lbs, 2nd week 1.0 lbs, 3rd week .8 lbs. Let's you and I take everyone else's advice and relax and be patient together. I'm counting on you and I making nice progress again soon!

Try not to rely on the scale....that is always a down fall. I have trained myself not to look at the scale more than twice a month,.,.,..it is really hard, but you always see a difference then and you learn the idea of loosing weight over time. I have lost 60 pounds since March 22, my surgery date, and 20 from the two weeks before surgery. I am close to goal and slowing on weight loss. I am learning to be happy with this progress. Feeling great! good luck

Janacreid, what's happening is ur body adjusting to major surgery and a new "normal".

Best way to think of your progress is that u r at the top of a very long flight of stairs. You go down a few, then pause for breath and stand on a step, then set off again. That's what ur body will do throughout ur weight loss - it will drop in weight and inches, stop and gather itself, then drop again. Some pauses will be longer than other but u will progress.

Hope that helps! Only one other piece of advice - step away from the scales. Don't swap a food addiction for a weighing addiction. Once a week is more than enough :-)))) Good luck!

I'm glad I read this thread......I was really beginning to worry that it was just me. I don't know why I have these unrealistic expectations. It took me a lifetime to become 290 lbs and I am not honna lose the extra weight overnight. Thanks so much!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
