I was told by my Dr that a sleeve can leak within 6 months. The reason is that it is still healing until that time (sometimes longer) and that as swelling goes down, leaks can become more visible.

I haven't found anyone here (that I remember) having a leak later on.

Thank you for replying. I've been having a weird sensation in my stomach. My muscle aches said I was doing sit-ups but I haven't. I think I over ate or something. Not having any other symptoms .

I asked my surgeon at my first post-op visit and she told me that it can happen up until 9 months. The symptoms are high fever, nausea, vomiting, and a constant pain in your left shoulder and left side of your torso. I was worried because I had pain in my back on the left side whenever I moved about 10 days after surgery. But, my surgeon assured me that the pain wouldn't go away with movement and that it would be almost excruciating.

Oh okay, well if you had a leak you'd most likely have a fever and pains in other places (not just your stomach). Hope you feel better soon!

If you still feel this way tomorrow, maybe call your Dr just in case.

Thanks! It's actually gone now...it was more like a pinched nerve or something because when I would stretch my neck it would hurt somewhere in my left shoulder blade. I just got paranoid when I saw that one of the symptoms of a leak is left shoulder pain. Thankfully it wasn't that!

I asked my dr last week about leaks. He said most happen in the first 72 hrs. It's very, very rare to have one after the first 3 months. In fact, the latest he's ever seen (and he's a Center of Excellence and has done many sleeves, not sure the number) was 1 week. He's only had 3 leaks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
