Egg drop soup on 3-week post op diet?

Recommended Posts

Egg drop soup...how many of you had it during your 3-week post op diet? I worry that the eggs don't qualify for the liquid diet. I know they're super soft, but can they hurt me?

I placed a call to my Doc's office since I'm not starting the "soft" portion of the diet until Tuesday (commmmmmmme ON Tuesday!) but today I'm REALLY struggling with wanting something more than my chicken/beef broth, runny cream of chicken Soup and Protein shakes!Doctors office closes at noon on Friday's so I don't know if I will hear back or not.

Any advice is appreciated. Don't want to do anything to hurt my sleeve and my recovery, but if Egg drop soup is "safe" I'm going for it!

We did it, which is not to say it's okay I guess. But we made it at home because the store-bought stuff had junk in it that really didn't taste good to us. That yellow color and that thickness is not normal!

We heated broth with salt and pepper, and then when boiling, we mixed a little cornstarch and Water and poured that in. Poured in the beaten egg, stirred three times with chopsticks and put the lid on and turned the stove off. After a while, we put it in our cups and poured 2 drops of hot sesame oil for flavor and it was yummy-licious. We also tried puree-ing it in our blender to pulverize the eggs, and that works too.

It's so easy to make at home, i'd go that route if possible. I don't know about fake coloring, MSG, etc in the restaurant stuff.

Egg drop Soup and Tomato Soup were on my approved list of foods to eat in the third week. I don't think I ever enjoyed anything more delicious than that first litle bit of egg drop soup.

We play poker at a Chinese restarant every week and I have to smell the yummy food. While on the full liquids (4 wks) I ordered egg flower Soup and just ate the broth. It was goopy, li,e snot. The taste was just like chicken broth but I couldn't get past the snot like consistency. Never ever had any type of Chinese soup before.

Looking forward to this week howver. Now that Im on a soft diet I will enjoy egg foo yung. My fav...

Just curious what your doc said. I'm craving it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
