I had my surgery on 5/9/13. So approximately 3 months ago. I have been doing great, lost 54 pounds. I have felt great since about a week after surgery, until this week I was in so much pain Monday night I went to the ER at 2am. I have not felt great since, I have terrible pain in my right side and in my back on the right side. I have a call into my surgeon again, called on Tuesday morning. I was told some of my blood work is not normal... elevated bilirubin count and elevated liver enzymes. I am worried. Surgeon says he is not concerned about the tests he is having them repeated and getting a sonogram of my gall bladder. Has anyone else experienced this? Again just looking for feedback as I am worried. Thanks

It sounds like gall stones. The pain in your upper back is the clue. I lost a lot of weight 8 years ago and developed gall stones and had to have my gallbladder removed. It was as easy as having a tooth pulled. Don't stress, just make sure there aren't stones in the ducts.

Good luck!!

No need to be worried. Super Normal to have gallbladder issues with hormones changing and dramatic weight loss.

You will probably have another similar lap surgery to have it removed.

DO NOT EAT FAT!!!!

Sounds like the dreaded gall bladder all right. You can manage the problem by not eating full fat anything. Low or No Fat dairy, and lean meats. These things can be intermittent, they can get better and then you have another attack. The ultrasound exam will give your surgeon lots of information (I am an ultrasound technologist) then you and the Dr can decide what to do next.

Thank you Catherine707 I am not an ER person I don't go for any reason but I was in so much pain I could not stand it. I had a c section and did not take any pain meds and honestly would rather do that again than have another episode like Monday night

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
