August sleevers && preop diet

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 2 and doing well so far.

Hi Hannah on day 2 as well but now it's Friday night and no enjoying drinks and festivities as I do on weekend, so I was doing well all day until tonight hit. I am glad you are still doing well and I will fight to focus on the end result.

Hey friends! My surgery's the 13th. :) Excited with all of you.

I find that the more I stick to it the easier to becomes. I'm going into the fourth day now. I realized that for this preop diet' date=' I REALLY have to slow down my eating. Sometimes it takes me an hour to drink some broth, have some veggies, whatever it is I'm allowed.

The hardest part now is intermittent hunger and realizing I'm about to go into a habit (grazing, picking up a food and then being like, "WAIT! I can't it this." My plan is to take it hourly.[/quote']

At least you can have something other than just these Protein shakes.

Surgery is 8/7 feeling way tired, lightheaded, etc. Is anyone else having this issue with the prep diet?

Cant say I've been feeling that way but its still early, I'm just on day 3. Your surgery is right around the corner, hopefully after you'll start to feel better. Good luck!! :)

My pre-op diet is shakes for Breakfast and lunch with 2 Snacks and a palm size meat (no skin, or fat, or oil) and 3 hand-fulls of veggies for dinner for 2 weeks.

I haven't cheated so far but I probably would if I just had a clear liquid diet like you lol. Stay strong!!

I'm allowed 3 Protein drinks, and 6 servings total out of the following: oatmeal, cream of wheat, 98% fat free or light veggie Soup, sf pudding, sf yogurt, no sugar added applesauce, lettuce/carrots/cucumber/broccoli with 2 tbsp of ff dressing. The serving size is 1/2 cup to a 1 cup. All the clear liquids I want (including sf popsicles, my savior the first few days!)

I'm winding down day 4 and still have 2 Protein Drinks left. I had major tummy issues the first day, but that was an experiment gone wrong. I switched to soy milk months ago after hearing about people's post op issues with lactose intolerance. I bought skim for this week. Bad idea lol I'm back on soy now and all is well. My dizziness and headaches are getting better, although I still feel super scatter brained. Walking around the grocery store tonight made it slightly worse, yet I felt better once I got home. I'm also diabetic so my flailing blood sugars are contributing to my head troubles lol

Yesterday I obsessed about pizza for about 3 hours. I just sat and chomped through about 5 popsicles till it passed. My only "cheat" has been a teaspoon of grated parmesan cheese in some Soup. I don't even count that lol Today has been much better. This is doable, as long as you keep your eye on the prize!

I haven't officially started the preop diet yet. My surgery is on the 21st. I bought all of my stuff yesterday and will be easing myself into it over the next couple of days.

My surgery is on the 21st as well. Second day with my liquid preop diet....13 more days to go. I keep reading in other posts that this gets easier. I sure hope so.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
