48 hours after my surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, just posting 48 hours after my surgery I'm in a lot of pain, I have been doing a lot of walking in between naps. I'm not able to turn on my left or right I can only lay straight on my back and the pain is extreme but manageable with the meds. My stomach muscles hurt so bad at times. When I first awoke from surgery the gas pain was so bad I just wanted to walk and get it to move down . The more I walk the better it helps . Its a slow boogie to healing but its only 48 hours rt now. So just wanted to check in and give an update.

Keep walking! It will get better. I'm 1 week, 4 days out and I feel great!

When I first rolled onto my side, holding tightly to a pillow seemed to help.

Good luck.

My hospital gave me a Bari-Bear (a very firm Teddy Bear for bariactric patients) and I used that thing like crazy. It really helped me to be able to turn on my side a little bit. If I had to cough or anything I used it to hold my tummy tight. I loved my Bari-Bear :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
