medicaid while married?!?!?!

Recommended Posts

You can qualify for Medicaid based on your income bracket. For insurance your income can be higher then most and medicaid can be used a secondary insurance. The primary pays a large chunk and medicaid picks up what ever else is left. you may have very little left to pay. Also, i have friends that live in NYS that have had the sleeve done with having Medicaid. Not everyone has a supportive spouse, or some spouses are more scared then anything.

With that being said, she will still have to use her husbands insurance as primary. She is not wanting to use his insurance and use Medicaid only. I don't see how that is possible. She is going to have to sit down and talk to hubs...if this is truly what the OP wants she is gonna have to face her husband.

Your family has a job plus insurance AND still qualify for Medicare? How is this possible?

I live in TN. I had it before I got married and I have 2 kids. Then when I got married they let me keep it and moved my husbands insurance to primary. They only gave it to me n the kids not him. They pay what ever his insurance want pay like copays. When it comes to the surgery both insurances here pay for the surgery. Of course I had to go though my husband's insurance first but if his didn't pay for it tenncare would. I have the paperwork from the seminar.

I still find it hard to believe that Medicaid covers insured people! I thought it was for hardship cases ONLY! No wonder the system is so far in the hole! I know families who have NO insurance and less than part time income who don't qualify for ANY medicaid coverage. SMH..

what state do you live in? Ups pays so little you qualify for Medicaid? Plus you have insurance? I should have have moved to your state before I had surgery. I'm self employed and was to heavy to qualify for insurance so I financed my surgery. Dang lucky you!

My husband has been there almost 5 years and get 2 raises a year so he makes good money plus they let him double whenever he wants. He makes good money at UPS and it also depends on what you do there. Just just offer him a driving job they start out at $26.00 hr. They have great advancements if you stick to it.

soooo long story short my husband feels that this isnt important enough to go through the trouble for. Does anyone know if its possible to get medicaid when ur married? n if it covers? im feeling massively disappointed and hurt so im just trying to find a way to accomplish this without having to get him involved?

I have no doubt that my opinion on this will come across ugly/be unpopular/will earn me a tongue lashing, but I can't be quiet on this one. If you have insurance, you should use that after working through the issue with your husband. The American tax payer works hard for their dollars and it's my opinion that my tax dollars should be used for people who have serious illnesses or are in desperate need of help, not on someone who is choosing NOT to use the resources they have because it's not "important enough to go through the trouble for".

I tried to keep my mouth shut, but I'm not really good at that. :D

ok never mind we shouldn't move there! She is from Tennessee and I looked up how to qualify for Medicaid on the Tennessee gov web site. Its called tenncare Medicaid and there are lots of rules and guidelines you must meet before you can get on it. Pretty much you have to be poor, disabled stuff like that. But if 26 bucks an hour means your poor then more power to ya!

Just curious, but you said he makes good money and I know UPS provides good benefits so why stay on medicaid?

In a nutshell OP, if u feel nd ur doc feels that u NEED this surgery, then YOU as a wife HAVE just as much rights to ur insurance as ur hubs do! Idk u or him or what issues u guys face/d as a couple but I doubt that its the wls that makes him feel that u don't NEED it per se' . So if u can't/won't let him know the importance of u getting the surgery, then Medicare/caid or not, he's still not going to want u to get regardless of the insurance u get. But if u truly need it, then like one other person said, do the homework, sit his aerse down, nd show him the who, what, when, why, nd where...nd then say, either w or wo u, I'm getting this done and Ty 4 the card (insurance). Like I said, we don't know u guys issues but he can't just hold the insurance card ransom bc he doesn't like what ur doing w it. I don't c how he can legally do that, unless, he don't have u insured. Then if he doesn't, nd u can't afford any, apply for help then. Gl

Okay first of all I said he just got an job offer to make more money. With what we make and the amout of children we have they told me I still qualify. My husbands insurance is my primary and all tencare pays is my copay. I didn't lie on my paperwork and I gave all my info so if they say I can keep it I will. I have bills just like everyone else. And based on that don't get upset because of there rules not mine. My husband pays taxes like everyone else so to each is his own. Even before I got married I took care of my kids. I have income that comes in as well so we don't live off the government. He is trying to make more money so he can add my kids and we want need anything from the state. But I'm using my husbands insurance to have my surgery not tax payers. And if I was to use my tenncare I have the right like everyone else to use my insurance the way I see fit if I qualify.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
