Recommended Posts

soooo long story short my husband feels that this isnt important enough to go through the trouble for. Does anyone know if its possible to get medicaid when ur married? n if it covers? im feeling massively disappointed and hurt so im just trying to find a way to accomplish this without having to get him involved?

Would you have to get him involved in it? A lot of times you just need his information and as long as insurance through his job will cover it the clinics take care of everything. You just have to make sure to go to all of your necessary appts.

Not get your husband involved? Having this surgery is a commitment for life. It's not a quick fix, you lose weight, and then life is perfect.

My husband was my rock during recovery. I couldn't even be around food for the first month, it was emotionally too hard for me. He took over the cooking. He helped care for the kids while I needed to rest. He helped lift heavy things for me when I couldn't. Still to this day, over two years later, he is involved. He helps work his schedule so he's home with the kids while I work out. Most importantly he's there for me emotionally. I can't imagine my husband not being involved.

Not everybody has support from their husbands or families.

Not sure, but like the first person who commented, I don't think you would need his "approval" before hand. Also due to patient privacy the insurance carrier wouldn't be allowed to ask him or tell him anything regarding your doctors visits or your medical chart. Just make sure to do all the labs and or classes that they require of you!

Good luck!

i know that it is a life commitment. And that its not a quick fix. I understand that. And im glad you had the support that you needed. But not everyone has that luxury. I was just trying to see if anyone knew about medicaid or any other way around this. But thank you anyway.

Have you sat down n talk to him. Does he go to the doctor and know what is going on with you. Slowly get him involved that way before you drop the bomb. Education is power. My husband didn't want me to do it at first but I didn't either. It was the fear of the unknown. But when he starts hearing the doctor point out all ur issues his view may change. Let him know that if he wants you around for along time you need this for the both of you not just you. You know how to get though to your husband. I was able to do it and my husband called his insurance after the seminar we had and found out my surgery would be 100% covered and the doctor I wanted was too. Just take baby steps and pray. If it is ment for you to have this you will sweetie. But my husband and I didn't not see eye to eye at first I even tried this past year to do it on my own after the 1st seminar we went to now I'm back on this same road1yr later so it may take time. But now we are both ready and I have learned so much about myself.

I don't think being married you would qualify for Medicaid. You have to include his income and the fact you are on his insurance I think would disqualify you. And if you don't tell the truth about your circumstances and its found out you could be charged with fraud. At least that's how it is in the state I live in. You really need to think about this before going down that road. I am sure you can work this out with your husband. Just talk to him. Really make him understand how you feel. And if he doesn't support you quit talking to him about it and just do it. That's how I had to start out and then hubby fell in line when he realized I was serious. Call your insurance find out what your full benefits are. What your deductible is and if you will have any out of pocket. Get it all lined out and then go talk to him. Have a plan all laid out then show it to him. Maybe seeing you put all this thought into it will show him how serious you are. Sit down write out what your thinking and feeling. How it really truly feels to be over weight. And if you can't tell him these thing verbally show him what you have written. Make him understand.

I hope this works out for you if this is the path you choose.

It all depends on your income. My husband works for UPS and I have Aetna and Amerigroup. His im primary and Medicaid is my secondary. The worst they can say is no. It is worth a try but talk to ur husband.

I know in missouri a family of 2 can only have a income of like 250 a month. And if you already have insurance then no you can't have Medicaid. Plus I don't mean to be nasty but if you have insurance then you need to use that. It's doesn't sound fair that the tax payers in your state should pay for you to have surgery when you have insurance. Sorry to be so blunt. I hope your husband comes around and understands why this surgery is important to you. Good luck!

Your family has a job plus insurance AND still qualify for Medicare? How is this possible?

what state do you live in? Ups pays so little you qualify for Medicaid? Plus you have insurance? I should have have moved to your state before I had surgery. I'm self employed and was to heavy to qualify for insurance so I financed my surgery. Dang lucky you!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
