Clammy, sweaty and energy drop after eating

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 weeks post-op tomorrow and just over the last couple of days, each time I eat a meal (well balanced/appropriate size) within minutes I start to get clammy and sweat and my mood/energy levels take an immediate nose dive. I can only think it has something to do with my blood sugar levels. I was not diabetic prior to surgery. Does anyone know what this is caused by or has anyone else experienced the same thing?

I get like that, along with other symptoms from stuff containing sugar. I never had an issue with sugar before surgery but now i am extremely sensitive to it. I have to check everything for hidden sugar.

I have also heard of people feeling like that from eating too fast.

Thank you for your advice! I spoke with my doctor today and he has told me that it's dumping syndrome. So I need to pay very close attention to what I'm eating. (hidden refined sugars & Carbs)

Do you remember what you ate that made you feel that way?

One time I ate potato so that would explain it and another time I had refried Beans & cheese, so I can't really explain that one. I guess I will just have to make a note if it happens again and see if there is a trend. It may also have to do with eating too fast as niki mentioned.

I get that with too much sugar as well. But for me, it has to be very sweet ( ie Desserts, cosmo)

Eating too fast and eating one spoon too much usually gives u those symptoms... Chew well, helps u get a reasonable amount of food in, eat slowly and pay attention as u eat - and stop before u feel full. The last one is hardest for me of i am enjoying the food :-((((

The eating slowly is killing me! I try so hard but it's so time consuming and so boring. I am managing 15 minute meals and 15 times chewing, but my doctor told me today that I should be doing 30 of both Aghhhhhh

With me it's the liquid cheese they put on hot dogs and frito pies. tried it twice and got sick both times. Lesson learned!

yep. I also get that when eating something high in sugar. I think it could be like our version of dumping syndrome is what I was told. I get clammy, hot, feel sick...last time was after I ate some chocolate!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
