Eating is complicated @4 weeks

Recommended Posts

I was told to experiment with food but food is hit or miss! I am so over the 3 or 4 bites of food. I feel hungry and can not eat u graze! So over it I need to live on shakes and fruit.< /div>

I am almost 6 weeks post op and I still can only 3 or 4 bites at a time but it is so much more then I was able to a week and a half ago. I think it's gonna have to take time. My problem is taking big bites and eating fast. I need to slow down!

Hi it does get better and even at 11 months and sometimes I eat a couple of bites and I feel full. You just have to keep on trying foods. If today it doesn't agree with you wait a week and try it again. I ate and still eat ground beef, ckn or tuna salad

eggs , cottage cheese, cream cheese, Soups, shakes, shrimp, fish, i add Protein powder to my oatmeal, Cereal , yogurt.

A couple of months ago I started eating more salads and fruit.

What is the reasoning behind eating slow? I get the "small bites," but I'm having a hard time understanding why we have to eat at a snail's pace? It's the HARDEST thing for me!

Hello. The reason we are told to eat slow is because it takes our stomach some time to tell our brain that we are full. In that time it's easy to shovel food in and then we would be overfull and very sick. (I'm guilty of this. More then once.)

fruit is also my go too food but its hard. I do think I may be eating too fast but the smell of food irks me sometimes. It's like the first trimester of being pregnant ! I know I'm not pregnant! Lol! I am gonna try making Protein smoothies this week with fruit. I loved bit getting hungry the first 2 weeks but now I want to eat and can't. I am snacking on grapes, crackers and cheese and it seems to help. Salads are also my go to food at work. I am down 32 lbs so I need to just deal.

I'm having the same issue here. Regardless of whether I'm hungry or not, 3-4 bites (6 if I'm famished) is my limit. It worries me a little because I don't want to be "undernourished (I did buy chewable vitamins)." And it kind of makes me happy (sorry) that i'm not the only one who is sensitive to smells! The smell of bacon nauseates me; my family has been cooking bacon every day since I stopped eating pre-surgery, and I HATE the smell. I thought it was a mental thing, but last night when I came home from work the smell from the morning masked the chitterlings they cooked that evening. BLECH!

This is what we paid for! Restriction to only eat small amounts!! So worth it!!

The way it was explained to me is that you're training yourself to savor the food, chew it more thoroughly because you're apparently getting more nutrients out of the food, which also is supposed to help keep your weight down once eating isn't a problem. For me, eating tiny bits is no problem because I'm still trying to sneak food into my stomach, but stretching my meal to 30 minutes? No, I don't want to eat anymore long before that, unless I do a very thin (not much else besides the broth) Soup.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
