Getting Prepared for Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi I am a newbie & I'm in the process of preparing for my sleeve surgery which will hopefully be in September or October. I'm 57 and have been overweight most of my adult life. I am just tired of it - tired of being fat and not fitting into clothes - tired of being the biggest one in the room - just plain ole tired!!!!! I am very happy to have found this forum - it just answers so many questions. I placed an order today with Unjury products - has anyone used them? and what do you think? Thanks

I am a newbie as well. I'm looking at sept or oct to... It's nice to find someone who is starting their journey around the same time as I. What are Unjury products and where can I find them?

Thanks you guys! I bought Unjury right from their website - unjury.com. I don't believe you can buy this at a store. Have you met with the surgeon yet. I don't know if everyones program works the same but mine went like this. First their was an orientation meeting, meet with the doctor, then the psychologist, then the nutritionist, and an exercise person (I forget her title). After I met with the nutritionist she decided I needed to come back a 2nd time 1 month later ` I wasn't happy about that but I did. Then we start a 4 week cycle of meeting once a week for 90 minutes with the doctor, psychologist, etc. . . When this is done I have to meet back with the nutritionist and then she clears you for your meeting with the surgeon. So much of this just seems like repetition but that's the way it works. Does your program work the same?

Thanks for the website I will look into that. My journey has begun like this my Heath insurance requires me to visit with a nutritionist 4 times. I had my first visit before the weight loss seminar. So tht knocked one visit out. After the seminar I met with the surgeon and she gave me a "to do" list. I had to schedule 3 more visits to the nutritionist which aug 6 is my third visit, she scheduled me for an endoscopy, which I had three days ago, I had my psych eval last week as well. I have to keep food logs on my fitness pal for the nutritionist. The longest thing for me are the nutrition visits because they can only be scheduled one month apart so my last will be the beginning of September and I should get my date of surgery

I liked their sample pack....strawberry mixed with crystal light lemonade, unflavored to mix with SF drinks, chocolate, and the chicken flavor for something different......I'm not a big vanilla fan, but it was good, too.

If you want it cold, mix it first with room temperature Water, and put it in the fridge over night or for a few hours......unjury powder clumps if the Water is too hot and it's not as easy to mix if the water is ice cold.....

I'm not allowed any unjury the first week after surgery......but the 2nd week and beyond it's fine....haven't ordered a whole tub of anything yet.....I'm pretty happy with the RTD premier Protein drinks (and have a big bunch from costco)

I am curious why you are not allowed any Unjury products the 1st week...

Unjury has my vote. I have tried both chocolates, vanilla, chicken and unflavored. I have tried many nectar flavors and I still go back to Unjury. I have even added a drop of peppermint extract to the chocolate and different sugar free pudding mixes to the vanilla, just to give a different shake flavor.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
