Hello all of you new comers! You are absolutely right about the great information you will find here. I had my consultation with my surgeon last Friday and had very few questions to ask him, because I already knew it from the website. Hope you hang around for awhile.

Joan

Do you guys remember if you spent your presurgery time overeating like crazy? I feel like I'm continuously grazing almost like i'm afraid I'll never eat again after being banded:hungry: whats up with that? Also do you enjoy food as much afterwards or does it just become nessesary to live? Thanks for your advice it really helps.

yup....most ppl go thru that phase prior to surgery Astrotoes....I had a lot of "last meals".....in anticipation....

Yes, you will still enjoy your food post-op.....likely even moreso. It's an adjustment tho. I still get sad/disappointed that I can't eat more of a good meal...but I do enjoy the amounts and food that I do eat.

OH YA!!!! It was 'bring it on' time.:hungry: :hungry: :hungry: :hungry: !!!

Perfectly normal, not neccesaraly good to do, but perfectly normal.:(

I did experience frustration with (out) bingeing after being banded. It was probably the worst about 1 month later for a couple of months. It was however spuratic and coming here always helped with the venting. Even though I would be lying if I told you I never felt like tieing into a pizza. When you start to feel real good, and the pounds are coming off, it is way easier. I also find that for the most part I enjoy food more. I enjoy the flavours and the atmosphere, etc... Probably because we have no choice but to take our time and chew, chew, chew. We are forced to enjoy it, lol. Hope that helps.:(

Thanks guys,I hope to get a handle on it soon, but I still get sad at the thought on not being able to scarf down 3 or so lobster and a couple of beer....mmmm my favorite. The smart side of my brain knows this is'nt working for me and something needs to happen, but the other side(sometimes feels larger)panics.

Just remember astrotoes, you'll still get to enjoy your lobster and beer. You just won't feel gross after, and you'll look real good eating it!!:(

Hi Everyone and welcome. I've been lurking lately too instead of joining in. Being banded is quite a journey. It is great having so many friends in bandland.

I totally know what you mean. I have been on the farewell tour since about Christmas. Everyday for lunch I'm thinking "where wont I be able to go again" I am lining up new homes for my "Buy 12 donairs, get one free" card as I dont think I will finish it in time.

It is really weird, but Jan. 24, when I start Optifast by body is going to go into a state of shock. I gotta get it out of my system.

People I work with are making New Years resolutions to eat better, meanwhile I have been a human garbage can lately.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
