The doubting game begins :/

Recommended Posts

I think it's natural to have doubts and fears. I've only got a 3 1/2 week window between my initial consultation and surgery. I am confident in my surgeon, but am very scared of complications, failure and death. Now that I've started my pre-op diet, I've started second guessing myself thinking that I might be able to do this on my own. I've never been successful in keeping weight off before, though. I am praying that everything goes perfectly and trying my best to do exactly what the surgeon says.

I am happy to see i'm not the only one getting cold feet sometimes =) but like you i too know this is what i want, thanks for sharing your story with me maybe we'll have surgery around the same time and can keep each other posted on our journey Good Luck tommorow hope all goes well i will be in for my first surgeon and NUT appointment this thursday then monday of next week i have a phsyc appointment a physical on tuesday and another NUT appointment thursday of next week ....so i have 5 appointments coming up between this week and next week maybe thats why i'm getting nervous because things are gonna start moving quickly "fingers crossed" lol

I went.. learned a lot, like I have to save $6,000.00 for my surgery, my pre op includes Protein like turkey, chicken, tuna and eggs so I am not going to have to starve like I thought :) My doctor wanted me to a facility and have the surgery where I would stay a night or two and I talked him into outpatient because of the costs and I am hoping to be sleeved between 11/1-11/15 Whoot!!

I to am a young wife and mother and struggled with the thought of possible death. But this time I scheduled my first visit I made sure I was absolutely ready for a life change and honestly I'm glad I waited 2 yrs I was ready and now I cannot wait for the doctors to call with a date! I hope you feel better with wls and only do it when you KNOW your ready. Good luck!

Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies, support, and sharing your own thoughts and concerns. So i went to my first surgeon appointment today. My surgeon is just awesome great person explained everything that would go on before during and after surgery. He asked if i had any questions and my mind honestly went blank lol i told him i had been reading, getting informed and making sure i knew everything that had to do with these wls, his answer was i am always happy to hear my patients say they have done their research =) he asked which wls i was interested in i said the sleeve, he said good girl that is what i recommend for you. He ordered blood work got that done today, ordered an upper gi exam that'll be done next thursday, and i'll be seeing him again on August 22 to talk about the results and a date he said after these studies are done i should be all set to set my surgery date which will probably be sometime around September..OMGGGG its starting to feel real lol....Now i also went to the first NUT appointment today honestly i felt a little overwhelmed with all the info and how my life will change completely physically and nutrionally but its gonna be worth it because i also realized that ones we start getting used to the eating pattern after surgery it will all be somewhat easier especially after seeing that after stage 4 in nutrition we pretty much get to add most things back to our diet but much more carefully of course and in less portions. Anyways just wanted to update everyone this coming week i have 4 appointments and i should be all set until i see my surgeon for a date =)

Hi everyone I too am a newbie. I also have went back and forth with the decision since May. I never even considered this surgery before my mom passed in May. Now I just keep thinking...she was only 55. I have these genes. I just think not doing it would be crazy. I already the health issues that my mom also had, and eventually took her way too young. I came to the decision that this is something I MUST do. I dont have insurance, so I am just going to go to Dr. Alvarez in Mexico. I will be having my regular doctor do all the clearances before I schedule my surgery. I just think you must weigh the pros and cons and make the best choice for yourself. I wish everyone good luck in their choices to make their own life better.

Hi Jenni77 welcome, so sorry for your loss :( i completely agree with you we have to weigh the pros and cons and think about what is best for our health. Although i am having so many doubts and thoughts about wls i also think on the fact that my pcp told me that because of my uterin linning becoming so thick because of no periods (i have pcos) she is worried it will eventually become cancerous, that itself pushes me to want to go ahead and do this surgery instead of waiting and then really regreting it :/ it sucks to have all these i do and i don't thoughts...but i know we will all be fine before we know it we will be chatting with each other on the "loosers bench" and supporting each other =) i wish you the very best throughout your wls surgery

Hi ya'll as some know i am a Newbie i have been waiting to start my appointments for wls since june and now that i am soo close to seeing my surgeon i am having soooo many thoughts and doubts and worries' date=' i'm trying to stay positive but its like 1 minute i am super excited that i'm finally gonna start my journey and the next i'm having doubts and of course i feel lost as far as what shakes i should buy etc. I know that once i start going to the NUT which is also on thursday i will get lots of answers to my questions as far as nutritions go. Last night i was reading through some posts here and i read 1 that was talking about a death in the family because of complications after surgery that got me really sad :( i worry about loosing all my hair after surgery as i have PCOS and right now my hair is falling off pretty bad my hormones are all over the place which isn't helping. I have 3 beautiful children whom are my life along with my husband and i just want to be able to enjoy the rest of my life with them and feel healthy again i am only 33 and haven't felt healthy and haven't been under the 200's in over 10 years don't get me wrong i am super excited of the thought of a healthier life and all the good that will come out of that i guess i'll just have to take it one day at a time. Sorry had to vent and i know this would be the best place to do so.[/quote']

Hey Betsy! I am 33 and also have PCOS. I was diagnosed in 2008. I have 2 kids and haven't been under 200 since I was 20. We have a lot in common! I have been thinking about weight loss surgery for a long time but dieting hoping that I wouldn't have to do it. But I just keep gaining and feel so old and that I am not participating in life.

I had my surgery 6 days ago. I am feeling decent. No surgery is ever super easy but mine went well. I am feeling the restriction and focusing on getting in my fluids this week. I am excited knowing that this year my life will definitely change. Not regretting my decision one bit.

Good luck!

P.S. My doctor said that if you meet the Protein goals then your Hair loss should be minimal if at all.

Congrats btw on your surgery i am happy all went well that is always a plus =). I saw my surgeon went to all my appointments and now just waiting to see my surgeon again on the 22nd this month hoping i get my surgery date then, i am anxious and it feels like its soo far away yet i know its around the corner i feel much better as far as Nutrition info goes i got a load of info my NUT was really helpful. Now i just pray all goes well with insurance and then surgery. My labs already came back they told me everything looks great and my NUT said i no longer need to see her until after surgery because i am doing great as far as understanding the nutrition part of the surgery my upper GI also looked good \0/ ....i agree i too tried dieting in hopes of not having to have surgery but i just gained more or would just loose the max 15 lbs and then gain them all back and then some, my pcp recommended the wls and said that it needed to be done so here i am in the process =) i hope to read more about how you are feeling so please keep us updated i'd love to know how everything works out for you in the "loosers bench" that way i'll know what to expect take care and Congrats again!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
