Will the excitment still be there after 6 months?

Recommended Posts

So I have to do the 6 month supervised diet. And my next appointment is until the 8 of August. Once a month after that. For those of you who have gone through the six months (or longer) are you still as excited by the time surgery comes around?

That's a great question. I can tell you that I started my journey January 20th of this year and my excitement grew throughout the 6 months until my July 2nd surgery date was cancelled 2 days before due to insurance complications. After that I went through a couple of weeks of a loss of excitement because I had been so excited and so ready and then let down hard. But.... Now that the insurance mess is cleared up and I have a new scheduled date of July 29th (a week away!) my excitement has sky rocketed again!

It depends on how much progress you make. I lost 45 lbs. and starting second guessing my decision to go forward with surgery. Luckily my husband encouraged me to go for it and I'm so glad I did.

Invest in the time during your diet to adjust to the sleeve lifestyle. It will make adjusting post surgery so much less stressful.

Insurance is what I'm also worried about. I'm concerned they will come in an crush that bubble. I mean surgery is expected February 10 and it just feels oh so far away that I feel I'll get over it by then ( I get over things quick lol) it has been about a week since my first appointment and I already started getting these thoughts of oh maybe I shouldn't but I also can't wait for my next appointment. I don't want to get discourage bc when I see my high school pics I want to be that person again but I guess it's just me being me.

That's my plan. To take these months to prepare my self mentally and physically. My niece is a nutrition freak and as soon as I told her about my surgery today she went ahead and typed up a full page on suggestions and even made a shopping list for me!! That was so encouraging. I want to be able to keep this excitement though out!

My 6 months of hoop jumping gave me time to really investigate the surgery, and how my life would be afterwards. If I was a bit skeptical before, after reading and talking to people about the sleeved life, I was absolutely sure that this was the right choice for me by the time of my surgery.

Since my surgery 9 weeks ago, I am even more excited for my new life.

Just keep moving forward. Good luck on your journey. It's going to be amazing!

What a great way to start off! When I went to my surgical consult, I was told I had to go through the 6 month supervised diet. Three months in, that requirement changed and I was on the fast track. I took it as an opportunity to get myself in check before surgery and I'm so happy I did. In the months leading up to surgery, I lost 50 lbs.and I feel that set me up for a good mindset going into surgery and all changes I would need to embrace. I had the time to emotionally prepare for what I was getting into. It is very easy to get suduced by the "I want it now" mentality. And yeah, I wanted it done as fast as possible too. That pre-op time gave me the opportunity to get in touch with my issues. It is a huge part of what will make us succesful. This post hit it on the head for me http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/78443-the-pre-op-diet-is-not-a-punishment-its-an-opportunity/

Best of luck to you!

Did you get discourage at any point? Did it go by quick for you? I'm just wondering. Maybe the first couple months are slow but the time is here before you know it!

I must admit thought reading all of this and getting more involved has helped

I haven't gotten discouraged because the 6 months have actually went by really fast. I start my two week liquid diet tomorrow (ALL liquid), so you might want to check back with me about the discouragement :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
