United Healthcare (Optimum Health Bariatric Resources)

Recommended Posts

I also have uhc and in the booklet that has all of my coverage info' date=' under bariatric services it has requirements an it says to contact bariatric resource services. MyOptumhealthcomplexmedical.com

Im going to my very first visit August 6 (Tuesday) an I'm excited but at the same time a little nervous. I don't want to have to wait another 6 months to do diet program. I no one of u said that they don't have to be consecutively. With my insurance how do I find out if they have to be over a certain period of time or be consecutively?[/quote']

If you call bariatric services they will tell you if yours is consecutive or not. UHC has to follow the employers guide that they set up.. Who knows you may only have to do 2 months!

Looking for someone that has UHC with Optimum health bariatric resources. I wanna know how long the wait is for approval once paperwork is submitted by surgeon. Not even gonna let the word denial in my head....lol

I have my 4th visit of the 6 month Dr supervised dt. next week. I should be finished up in sept. and already have a tentative surgery date scheduled for late sept. But it all hangs in the balance waiting for approval. Just trying to get some idea how long they take.

Thanks for any and all responses!!!!

I started with TR Hou in January and was told that my insurance paid up to 10k and I am pre-op 6 days and Found out just today that my portion is $24K That is "with no complications" Be sure you have the UPFRONT outline of the cost ~vs~ plan. I feel like an idiot that I found this out just today and I am scheduled for my Sleeve on Aug 12th. I have the same UHC with Optimum Health Bariatric Resources this is apparently not for the healthy but the wealthy.

That is terrible!!! So sorry that has happened to you. I have no out of pocket or deductible. Fortunately, my plan pays 100% for the sleeve as long as we use a network doc and a center of excellence. I only pay my copayment when I see my surgeon. I am so amazed at the differences in plans through the same insurance carrier.

For about half of that you could be a self pay, couldn't you? Something seems very wrong with that.

I also have uhc with the bariatric resource an my plan requires me to meet my 600$ deductible an then after deductible I have to pay 20% of procedures done afterwards. Also my maximum out of pocket fees will be 3500$. The way I see it is even if I have to pay the whole 3500 it will so be worth it in the end. I would rather pay a portion than the whole thing :)

Way to go! I got mine back in five days. Paperwork was submitted 08/01/13. Surgeons office called me with a approval 08/06/13. Scheduling called me 08/12/13 told me to start my two week pre opt diet and get blood work done. And had surgery 08/28/13. So yea hold on to your hat because it starts to move quick from this point!

I wish all blessings to you and a speedy recovery!

My doctor's office and I have received verbal approval from ins. co. for my surgery. In order to get a surgery date, my doctor's office requires the written letter. The letter was mailed on 9/18. Hope it arrives on 9/25.

I am a band to sleeve revision patient. Optum waived the six month supervised diet criteria due to band complications.

Looking at a 10/8 if available by the time I get written approval. If that date is unavailable I will have to wait until 10/25 due to work obligations.

Very excited but still a little nervous even though I know it is the right decision for me.

Did anyone gain or lose weight during the six month diet? Was it a factor at all? I have the UHC with Optimum and I started off at 293lbs month 1 then:

month 2 293lbs again

month 3 296lbs

month 4 290lbs

and I will be going tomorrow and in the month of December. I am at 297 again (had two weeks of flu and period started today :()

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
