I did my surgery over Christmas break and after two weeks when I finally went back to work (I'm a teacher) I still felt a bit weak and dizzy. Loose clothing helped a lot. After about 2 days at work, I was fine!

I had surgery on Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I have a desk job, but still requires a lot of getting up and down and walking. I left 1 hr early on Monday because my port site was a bit sore, but today I made it all day. My input is to take as much time off as you can. The better care you take, the quicker you'll heal, with less chances of complications (back pain, port site pain). I knew one lady at our office who had it on a Monday and was back on Friday.

I am having my surgery in Dallas on Friday!!!!!! I plan to be off from the 17-30th. I will arrive on 17th, meet with Dr and do stress test on18th and then rest until the 30th. I am a Pet Groomer and have a VERY labor intensive job. Not to mention leaning over a tub:nervous . I will try to do some work on the 25th while I have a helper that day in the shop.

My doctor suggests 3-4 weeks off.

I put in for that time off from work. During my f/u appointment, if i'm doing okay... I can go back.

I really don't mind the time off because i'll be over my liquids stage and it'll be easier to adapt.

I had my surgery on a Friday and went back to work on Wednesday. Looking back I should have taken at least 7 days, but I think 10 days would be just right. Everyone is different.

My doc says that he does a lot of his surgeries on Thursday and people going back to a desk job often go back to work the following monday. Two weeks if you have a labor intensive job, as he says absolutely no lifting more than 20 lbs for 2 weeks. He said if he were to have it done he'd take a week.

I'm hoping to be one of those Thursday-Monday people...

Hey Tracy! Have you returned to work?

I had surgery on Thursday and returned to work on Monday. I have a desk job though.

April, I used vacation time since I didn't tell my coworkers what I was up to.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
