Hello, I'm having my op on the 7th too! It's exciting to have other people going in at the same time. I'm in Australia and getting nervous about it. I start 2 weeks of Optifast this Wednesday.

My preauthorization went through fairly quick. I attended a seminar on 5/21/13 and was approved to move forwards on 6/29th. Dr told me to lose about 15 pounds...I called on 7/10 to report that I'd lost 17 pounds. He wanted to set the surgery originally for 7/20, but he was booked that day, so I am scheduled on the 2 to making the biggest decision in my adult life! To change...for me! Good Luck to everyone out there!

Good luck to you too. Its lovely that there are so many here who can support each other. Am feeling nervous as my date approaches. But I think the nerves are normal. Im sure I will freak out a little afterwards too but I think thats normal too. Its irreversable and a drastic change but I have to remember how much I need to do this.

Have been on Optifast for a week now. I started it a week earlier to make sure I could stick with it. Its difficult but do-able. Im hungry sometimes but I can mask it with a cup of tea or glass of Water. Good luck to you all for your surgeries. 8 days tomorrow.....

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
