Adding more calories, losing more weight

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't have believed it either. The decision to add more calories was a big one for me. After having little control over calories for so long, and now reveling in taking care of myself it was a big deal adding them in (really I was afraid to loose control again). Previously I kept them about 600-700. The scale was hardly moving for the past 2 months. I have read on here, and my trainer told me the body will not let it go (not easily anyway) if it thinks your not going to feed it. So I moved my cals up to 900-1000 per day. I said to myself just for this week to see what happens. 5lb in a week! That hasnt happened for me since week 2. I'm upping mostly with some extra fruit (has helped energy), sometimes Peanut Butter, and sometimes the occasional small treat! Yay me!

Awesome! I just learned to that your body will hold on to the fat if it thinks you are not going to feed it. I think, I know you did the right thing by upping you calories. I haven't been counting my calories yet just Proteins. I think I will start.

several people have advised this to me as well (I am currently averaging about 800 calories per day)...I saw my surgeon yesterday for a 2-month follow up visit, and he thought my 800 calories was on the high end of the range he would expect at my stage...he didn't advise me to reduce the 800 level but he certainly didn't suggest I increase that level...I just don't know ::confused::

I added a snack to my day when I hit a little stall, and it worked for me too! I'm happy I took that suggestion. :)

I am eating upwards of 1800cal a day and still losing consistently every month. Eating 800 calories per day is damaging your metabolism. I am still at awe that most surgeons apply this low calorie diet to every WLS patient.

I am at 4 months out and only eating between 500 and 600 calories a day - and still losing. I am very fearful to add calories at this point.

If its not broke don't fix it. If your still loosing, I would keep up with what your doing. It was getting to where I was happy if I lost a lb that week. Many weeks Ive lost nothing. My trainer advised me that in a month I might have to decrease again to 600-700 cals. a day to shock it back from another stall. Its really about what is best for you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
