Not sure if im doing this right or posting this in the right place but I thought this app would be a great place for support. My surgery date is september 6 and im finding myself eating more than I was before I even decided to get the surgery. I honestly feel like a bottomless pit and I want to start my opti fast diet aug 16 but ive actually gained 10 lbs since my first weigh in. I feel like such a looser. Ive dobe liquid diets and cleanses before just to loose weight in the past but I feel like I was focused. Right now all I feel like is having funerals with food I feel I cant ever allow myself to eat again. I know I need to stop gaining im messing with my goal weight but im scared if I keep on this track until my opti fast diet Ill gain more indefinitely. Am I totally nuts.. im reading lots of people started getting in the groove right away.. but I can't seem to stop saying goodbye to food. Even fast food. I hardly ever ate it before and now I am. Can anyone give me sone advice?

You're pretty anxious. You need to remember that eventually you can eat normal foods again but it will be no where near the portion you're having now. So no need to have those funerals ;)

You aren't nuts at all. Some people get into the groove faster than others. Trust me when I tell you, you will find yours soon. I didn't find my groove until after the surgery.

You are not a loser either. You are doing the same thing a lot of us did before surgery. I gained weight before mine too. If that makes us loser, then so be it. At least you are now among your own. Continue to read the posts and don't be afraid to reach out. This journey is highly emotional.

Ahh thank you for your encouraging words of advice! I have been a ravinious beast it seems lol. When I first decided to get the surgery I was on nutrisytem. So I guess once I was approved Im rewarding mysekf with food. Im just curious as to What Protein Shakes did you drink on your Optifast diet? which did you think worked best for you/taste wise and fullness factor?

I used GNC extreme 60 chocolate and Cookies and cream. They are decent if you use skim milk. Since the surgery I have stopped using them because they are like 300 calories per serving, and that's a huge portion of my allotted calories

for the day. I was allowed three of those per day during my two week diet.

Now I use EAS Carb Control. They are only 110 calories low sugar and carbs and 17g of Protein. And they are 12oz which is enough for me now. I use the rich dark chocolate flavor. You can buy the powder or pre mixed drinks. Because of my job, I buy the pre-mixed drinks and grab them from my cooler.

Hey Lyncarbone, I did the same thing. It's not the first time, either. Seems like there have been times when I have been ready to "diet" when all I can do is eat everything in sight. For me it's because I'm making a choice to change everything forever. Pretty crazy thinking for me. My brain says "I'll show you how we are gonna do this". And off I go 60 mph. Of course I eat abnormally unhealthy foods and start to feel crappy, but it can still take time (and a migraine) to get back to neutral with this.

So I gained 14 lbs pre surgery. Good news is I'm still pre surgery and am down 7 of them. But it doesn't seem like I could make it happen. My hunger beast had to get tired out. I am avoiding the sugars, gluten, and caffeine now. And I feel much better. I was a little woozy and sick coming off all my chemicals, but the beast is tamed for now. And I hope not to awaken that in me again. (another forever?)

You will be ok! Know that you aren't alone! I keep reading that this is work and that it's all worth it! I trust the majority here.

First of all.. welcome..

I'm per op as well.. I went on vacation and you know how vacations do you.. Yummy food, different places, alcohol.. I did it all. And when I went to the nutritionalist the week after it showed! I gained 4.5 pounds in the week at I was gone.. When they told me my actions could prolong the process that I will have to come back the following week and weigh in again.. I knew I had to straighten up.. I came back did a food journal everyday.. Got all my Water and Protein in.. And the following week I had lost the 4.5 pounds I gained on vacation.. I was so happy with myself I have kept it up.. And lost 10 pounds total since my bad weigh in.. Keep your head up and know that it's ok to fall of the rocker sometimes.. Just gotta climb back on it.. You got this!,

When you wander about in the threads here you'll find this is pretty common. That said, remember that the sleeve helps your body lose weight but it doesn't help your HEAD to lose weight. "NotLookinBack" has given some good advice. The sooner you can start to beat your brain into submission, the better! Good Luck!!!

Hi vst friends.. I was just wondering something.. I have my endoscopy first thing at 7 am tomorrow. What can I expect? Can I have a dress on? Am I wearing a hospital gown? How long does it take? Can I wear underwear and a bra? Any feedback will help

I had an endoscopy years ago unrelated to this surgery.

BEST. NAP. EVER. :D

I believe I had to put on a surgical gown, but I remember wearing gym shorts under. I remember it being only a few hours from start to finish. Nothing hurt afterwards and I was a little sad I couldn't have slept longer. I woke refreshed and ready to go.

You will be knocked out for it. You'll have to partial disrobe. I was allowed to keep my pants on as long as there were no zippers on them. (No idea why) and I put a gown on. Can't help you with a bra. I was there between 3-4 hours. That's including checking in getting to the room and waiting about 30-45 minutes in the bed, the procedure and the recovery. It was bad at all afterwards. On a scale of 1-10 of pain it was maybe a 2. I was fine about an hour after leaving the hospital.

Hi guys thought id update you. I was supposed to get my endoscopy at 815 but my surgeon was running behind so I didnt get wheeled in until after 10. I will say I was super nervous before hand (this is all new to me, hospitals doc visits etc.) But either way after the endoscopy I was super emotional from the anesthesia and teared up a little but that passed quickly. Im still tired as we speak and its 6 pm. I fell asleep after I got home around 2 and slept until about 5. I definitely feel as though I coukd right back to sleep even now .. oh well lol I didnt accomplish much today! Tomorrow is another day.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
