Nice! I have to do 3 months and I was thinking the same thing.. My insurance will pay as long as I either have a BMI of 40 or greater and I seriously just made the 40 so I don't want to lose much so I still qualify.

My first appt is next Tuesday.. I CAN'T WAIT!!

Good luck on your journey :)

Most insurance companies will go with your first recorded weight and not penalize you for weight you lose during the 6 months of supervised diets. You need to show that you are willing to follow a diet plan. And - losing weight is much better for you on the operation table.

I worry about the bmi dropping and then them saying I can do it in my own and don't need surgery. I can lose weight just can't keep it off then gain it back plus more :-(

Definitely ask about what counts the before 6 month diet weight out the after. Hope it goes well for you and welcome to the journey!

Has anyone started their diet for insurance purposes??

My surgeon said that my starting BMI is what the ins co goes by. I didn't actually lose any weight during the six months (wasn't a requirement). Didn't have any trouble getting approved. I use United Health Care, but every insurance co is different.

Has anyone started their diet for insurance purposes??

I'm on my 4 supervsed diet as of today. I also have to wait 6 month for insurance purposes. It seems like its taking forever to get here. Im also learning alot while waiting.

How is the journey going? I've gained 5 lbs in 3months I went the doctor this week and they started keeping track of my diet for insurance purposes. Does anyone have any tips on doing this accurately so that I don't have any issues with the insurance company? I don't want to be denied or delayed any further.

My six mouth was October 28 and I gained 6 pound throughout my six month. My surgeon said i have to lose 10 pound before he would operate. So now once i get approved for surgery by my insurance if i don't lose that 10 pound he will not operate. Again, every surgeon is different and might not be the same for you. My paper has been submitted and now I'm playing the waiting game.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
