I have really bad gerd. I am afraid that having vst will make things worse. Anyone else have this problem? Did the sleeve make it worse or better?

I had it pre surgery and it has gotten a lot better.

I have heard a lot of people say it gets better. So far, I am almost 4 weeks out and mine has gotten so much worse! I have been taking Nexium.

I've never had acid reflux until being sleeved!

Amen to that...

Also I was under the impression that most docs would suggest the bypass if you have gerd because the sleeve can make it much worse??

I had it pre-surgery and still have it post-surgery. It was worse in the beginning and has gotten less problematic. I take nexium twice a day and also recently started drinking a glass of Water with one Tbsp organic apple cider vinegar in the morning. I think that has helped alleviate the reflux a great deal. My Dr did say that if it became a serious problem for mr the fix was doing a revision surgery to the gastric bypass. I don't plan on going there.

pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274; 4 month post-op 266.2

My physician said my Gerd is related to my weight and I should see significant improvement after my surgery with weight loss. Maybe just an individual thing? I certainly would not want it to get worse.

I never had gerd before I got fat. Don't know whether surgery will make it better or worse. I do not want a by-pass.

I don't want the by-pass either. That's why I was asking about the gerd. My doc says the gerd gets better as you lose.

My surgeon took me off my GERD meds immediately after surgery. I was taking them again within days because of frequent heartburn (which I rarely had prior to surgery).

No reflux issues after surgery, but rarely had an issue with it before surgery.

I had GERD for 18 yrs. 4 mons post op, doc took me off meds. Only had 1 episode since and that's because I laid down too soon after eating. No problems since.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
