I am 8 months post op and today I was able to eat a whole hot dag and 75% of the bun!!!! Is this too much for someone 8 months post-op?

And I was counting on these 2 things: They'd remove the stretchy part (so I'm not like a gastric bypass patient and weight more in 5 yrs than I do now) and removal of the Ghrelin. Now I'm bummed. Do you feel hunger like you did in the beginning and can you eat more now than when you started eating solid food again?

No, i don't feel hunger like I did before. The mind is very powerful and can have you thinking you want food, when you truly aren't hungry. I can eat more than I could in the beginning, but I honestly think that's what helped me keep loosing weight. I am able to take in more natural Protein (chicken breast) instead of having to rely on the protein supplements for all of my protein needs.

The fact if the matter is that your stomach "relaxes" over time... It's not because you did not "use it properly" all you have to do is go to the vets forum and do some reading there to confirm this happens to everyone.

And as far as ghrelin? Your stomach is not the only producer of this hormone and over time the production of it will be up a bit again.

These things usually come into play around the 6+ month mark for most.

Will it go back to the way it was before? No.

But you will experience differences in your sleeves ability to hold more food and feeling hunger.

The surgery is not a cure, but it is a helpful tool to assist you in getting to a healthy goal weight.

I am using it properly, thanks! Down 90 pounds in 8 months! I got the sleeve to start over like all of us did and I reseached for a year prior to being sleeved. Several resources stated you will not feel hungry because the ghrelin hormone is removed. Well, being a since I'm studying science I'm aware the pancreas also makes ghrelin and other hormones contribute to hunger.

Marfar I think it was- I can eat more but really not much more. I can eat 3 oz of Protein and a few bites of veggies in one sitting. Before surgery I could eat a 6 oz salmon, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts and still be hungry! Yes you'll be able to eat more down the road but nowhere near pre surgery. A normal stomach can hold approximately 5 liters! Your sleeve will never do that.

As far as being hungry. I get hungry. Real hunger. Nowhere near as hungry as I used to be, but normal hunger. When I haven't eaten in about 4-5 hours, I get hungry. I eat my 4-6 oz of food and I'm full. You will be fine but don't 100% rely on the sleeve! You know what to do! You got this!

I started this journey at a size 24 and now I am a size 10. But yes I can eat more now than I did when I was fresh out of surgery. My doc warned me it WOULD happen as in all sleevers. I am holding steady but its a struggle. Its worse when I am bored. But I would have this surgery all over again. The sleeve is not a miracle. Its a tool and should be used that way. You have to contribute in order to achieve results.

I think people can vary and doctor can take more or less out based on each case. I can eat a lot. I eat a Taco Bell beefy crunchy almost daily for lunch. Bad I know. But that is about what I can take for size. Weight loss has slowed but now am having to try more to lose and avoid snacks. I just went on a 7 day cruise and was able to eat with the family and it wasn't obvious during meal that i had surgery so am happy about that. I fear gaining weight. A guy I know had a bypass and later a sleeve and is still or again rather 100 lb over weight. Another friend had bypass and is 50 over weight up 75 from low as he was 25 under normal at point. A girl I work with had same doctor and did it in November and still can't eat but a half slice pizza and doctor is concerned that she has already lost 130 lb since November and looks thin but gross. Moral of story if you can eat a lot be careful what you eat so you don't gain. And if you can't eat much eat a bit more often and get nutrition in. Just because the answer on what you are able to eat Is different from someone else doesn't mean something is wrong.

The brain is a tricky organ and if not careful can overcome any hormones or stretchy stomach!
