WHEN! Oh WHEN...will the scale move?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so maybe I am expecting too much. I had my VSG exactly one week ago and the scale has not budged. I even try to step up really slowly or lean from one side to the next...no change!!! Lol...but seriously.... I have not cheated. Because I am so heavy, I started my pre op diet early and I lost 29lbs prior to surgery. I figured that the weight loss would continue after surgery. I have heard of people having 6 month stalls or 1 year stalls...but 1 week??? Really? Granted I haven't been moving as much but I do walk ( very slowly) for 10 minutes twice a day! What gives?? :-(

Believe me, it will move. It's only been a week. Your body need time to get rid of all than anesthesia, gas & fluids they pumped in you during the surgery. Believe me, the scale will move sooner than you think.

Walk more is the first thing I'll say, that will get things moving. 10 minutes twice a day is not going to push the gas and other things out of your system. Drink lots, walk more and get yourself going. Not trying to brag but by a week I was walking a mile once a day then getting up and moving several times a day.

Like you, I lost 30 lbs before surgery. I gained 2 or 3 for the 6-7 days after, then things started moving. Give it time! It will happen. Don't weight daily, Weigh once a week so that you don't stress about it. You'll be happier in the long run without micromanaging the number and instead focusing on the food and on moving.

Good luck!

Yeah don't get discouraged, it takes a little bit for the loss to start as your body adjusts to all the changes. But before you know it it will start coming off. I do agree with Brian you need to get more walking in, it's hard to get started at first because you feel weak and tired from the surgery but once you get moving and the gas starts coming out of your belly it will get easier to walk and you will find you start being able to do things you haven't been able to do in years. It is also very very very important to make sure you are getting enough liquids and Proteins at this phase. The liquids, as well as keeping you from getting dehydrated, will help flush your system out making it easier to lose weight. And the Protein will give you the energy you need to keep moving. Also if you don't get enough protein you will lose muscle mass which will decrease the bodies ability to burn fat. Good luck, and enjoy the journey.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
