Recommended Posts

Roberta - yes, something is seriously wrong with me also - guess what, I've done the same thing that you did - hundreds of times in my life - and a few times since being banded..................but, I can count the times since banding on less than one hand.................I'm getting better and so are you.............don't knock yourself out...........we are not going to heal overnight (but.............it's so great........because we are healing!!!!)

Kat - happy to hear you're feeling better.

Went to my NIA class this morning..........so, 3 days in a row......yipee for me.

I was supposed to go to the gym this morning, but I just couldn't. I've had this nagging cold and I coughed so much of the night that I didn't sleep much and I couldn't get out of bed. Sometimes you just have to baby yourself, you know? I'm still walking around with my eyes barely open....Anyway, looks like I won't make it to the gym today. Tomorrow, being Friday, should be easier.

Have a good day.

Gosh, a lot of physical maladies going on! I'm praying for improved health all around.

Susan, what a bummer that you're suffering the pain of a pinched nerve. I hope that physical therapy will speed your recovery and that you'll be back on the exercise track shortly. In the meantime, please stay here and keep us company!

And Kat, I'm hoping that the dental fix on your crown has solved your tooth/jaw pain. My non-weight-related New Year's resolution is to be more patient and even-tempered in the face of perceived stupidity. Perhaps it's my yoga practice, but I would like to feel more serene and dispassionate.

Sorry that you are not feeling well today, Julie. Hopefully your cold and cough will be better tomorrow, because I know how important it is to you not to miss a day of exercise.

Dear dear Roberta, a belly dancing class no less! Do tell! I wanted to mention, vis-a-vis the offending pecan tart story, that I often fall victim to the worst slip-ups immediately after a weight-loss victory. And I can't for the life of me figure out the psychology of that. What would make me sabotage myself just when I'm doing so well? Jeez, it's like you can NEVER let down your guard!

Betty, I also have renewed my commitment to "band rules," primarily Portion Control. I'm back to weighing everything on my Salter electronic scale, which has proved to be my most valuable tool (other than the band, of course).

APRIL BANDITS JANUARY CHALLENGE: FOUR DAYS OF EXERCISE COMPLETED!

No exercise today! Had lunch with a good friend, did some shopping (but was good for a change - didn't spend anything (I have enough right now - waiting for the next size down before I hit it again!)............it's so tempting when you fit in "normal" sizes!

Hope all you "sickies" are feeling better!

Well Ladies the offending Pecan Tarts have left the building!!! I took them to the group meeting. After the meeting, there were several cakes, pies, ice cream, juices and soda. I am proud to report that NOTHING passed my lips!!!!! I am so proud of myself because I didn't have time to eat dinner before I went to the meeting. I went to Curves, 40 mins. workout.

Julie, I'm sorry to hear about your cold. Pamper yourself a little and feel better.

Roberta

Roberta, I'm glad the tarts left the building and even gladder that you exercised AND avoided the goodies. Better than me today, I must confess. There were chocolate covered oreos (2) in my day, as well as no exercise. I'm still under the weather but hoping to get in a little exercise tomorrow night. I'm not even trying for the morning....

Thought you guys might want to put a face to the name, so I attach a link to a picture of me with my sister-in-law from Christmas Day (I'm the short one). I'm not a fan of looking at myself too closely in pictures, but I thought as close as we've gotten that it was probably time to share....

Talk to you tomorrow,

Jeez, I spent 20 minutes trying to access Yahoo to see your picture, Julie, went through the whole procedure to register, blah blah blah, with what result? nada. access denied. I give up, I'm going to bed.

Julie, You are beautiful.................the red top with your dark hair is perfect! The difference of your before and after is spectacular..........you are as I have said many times my inspiration and I know will continue to be.....................thank you, thank you so much for starting our exercise group..............it's been such a boost for me the past few months.

Did a lot of eating out today - lunch and dinner and tomorrow is my weigh in day (not a good thing). Didn't really do bad stuff - just now when I'm trying to lose some more I really need to stay home and eat more often........it's hard for me because we eat out a lot...........oh, well that old thingy, maybe this is where I need to stay because it's comfortable and easy to maintain?????? Still in the back of my head that maybe a size 14 for me is good enough??????

I'm off in the morning for my NIA class...........missed my exercise today.........felt guilty that I didn't do anything (a good thing!).

Wahoo! I was able to access the Yahoo site and see your pictures, Julie. You are one great-looking lady! The transformation from one year ago is absolutely amazing. You look stunning already, and you're nowhere near your goal. Wow, keep up the good work.

I'm SO SORRY Bluehill! I had no idea you'd have to register to see anything. That's crazy. Please don't bother with that -- I'll put them on a public site when I get home tonight. I'm certainly not trying to get anyone to join any other group just to see my pics! It never occurred to me that Yahoo pics weren't public domain. I'll figure something better out, I promise.

Did my hour of NIA, 1/2 hour of Core (although I did have trouble because the instructor did a lot of things where you had to been on your knees and my one knee cap still hurts to put pressure on it - from that fall on cement last month -.........but I tried) and then 45 minutes of the Group Power class (weights)..........so I'm working on getting back to my marathon days on Mon/Fri's.

My weight went up .5 lb this week.................I'm back to posting my weight on Fridays again (I used to only weigh on Friday's also, but I think I need the daily check-in now)...........and I guess New Year's eve didn't help..............hope that now all that "stuff" is over I can get back to business - I have started as of NY day!

I made a great veggie Soup - put in carrots, onions, calliflower, broccoli, cabbage, rutabagas, turnips, frozen corn, some canned Beans with a chicken Soup base (the boxes from TJ's) and some seasoning..................cooked all this together till tender (about 1/2 hour).....got a cooked rotisserie chicken, took off the skin, cut it up in pieces and threw it in right before we ate.................delicious...............easy..............fast.

Hey Julie, don't feel too bad about the Oreos. We all need to do that sometime. You are doing great!! Two days before my surgery I was in the H & M store on Fifth just DREAMING of the possiblity of ever trying something on. I knew I couldn't so I walked over to Saks and bought a gorgeous scarf. Maybe next time I go I can find something there to wear with my scarf!

Bluehill, is "perceived stupidity" in others your ticket to intolerance? Mine is perceived laziness. Not sure how to work on that, though.

Betty, it is way too soon for you to wonder about your ultimate best size. It takes two years to get to where you should be with the band.

Couldn't workout for two days because of my nose injury. Wierd complications forced me to see two different surgeons and have tests that took too much time. The good news is that one of the surgeons actually specializes in facial plastic surgery, so if the bump doesn't improve I can have it "refined." Cool!

Gotta run Saturday to catch up with y'all!

DELTA DAWN, where are you?? Did a blizzard hit?

Hi!

Julie, like Blue---Yahoo, keeps giving me the run around too! I have a yahoo account, but it keeps trying to register me, when I enter my email, it keeps emailing me the same registration page, telling me I already have an account, when I log it in, it tells me I have no access to the lapbandchatter or whatever.....dunno what I am clicking wrong! Sure do hope you feel better soon---this crud everyone has is nasty!

Boo-glad the nose is feeling better, and that you have options if it heals badly. I need to have mine done...I have a bad bump because of a break, but also a deviated septum, from injury----but I have avoided it!

Betty---I think you look wonderful where you are at, but I have no doubt that you will continue to lose, it may just be time for your body to rest a bit. My fill Dr. told me to watch my body change during the weight loss lulls. He said that is when inches drop, and your body goes through adjustments, that no one really understands....but it has proved to be true with me! I measure alone and also at Curves, and even there, during the months I lose the least amount of weight, I lose the most inches!! Go figure!!!

Roberta---it is a shame we cannot be at the same Curves---we could rock!! I have changed the times I go, because a woman who was there, and complained non stop (I say as I complain about her!!), was driving me insane. She only half a$$ed on the stations, and then on the rest stations she just swayed, she never stretches afterwards, and then complains about not losing well. She also insists on talking about her Pomeranians who she is forced to leave in the car. I need to resolve to be more patient, understanding and kind........bad me!

Well I need to get ready for breakfast---meeting the family. We meet up every couple of weeks for Breakfast out--so no one has to cook, and then we have the weekend free to do our family things.

We had another snow storm yesterday, so I did Curves,a dn shoveled. Today---not sure what it holds yet, DH is off until Monday, so things are different!!! Will find something! Our high is not to be above freezing today, so maybe something indoors!!!

BBL!!

Kat

Boo - I've never heard the "2 years to get to" before? I know that "most" lose best the first year.............I would think that it would depend on how one uses their band - as we all know at this point - it is "only" a tool! A wonderful tool - but just the same at this point I certainly know how to sabotage if I want to do that and I would think that if I wanted to maintain at any time, with the adjustment of my intake I could do that and that also if I want to at any time continue on with weight loss. I do agree with most that the beginning months/year is probably the time we have the most dedication.

Had a great workout this morning - my normal NIA class, but wow......I have 2 friends who now join me most mornings..........all the husbands sometimes come and this morning we all stayed around and had lunch at a wonderful restaurant right in our gym.............we all shared salads.....it was really nice! Think we have a weekly Sat lunch date!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
