Glad u did that workout, did she work you hard? Bet you felt good afterwards! Wow, to talk about a fitness competition, maybe you are going to be her next star, I sometimes read those training magazines and those girls work out so much and eat so little and so cleanly.

Well it is my last day in Japan, heading home in 6 hours, but have a 18 hour work day in front of me......is a holiday weekend at home so that is good, I think I might be going on another date this weekend (with same guy)!!

Wish me luck!

JULIE: I am in total AWE. It is an almost reverent feeling! You just continue to amaze everyone. There is no turning back now. You will NEVER be MO again!! That is a part of your life that is a memory. The experience will give you compassion, and will be an inspiration to others. But it is OVER!

FRIENDS: Aren't we blessed to have chosen this path? I feel that my life has turned from grief and desperation to wonder and gratitude.

I feel exactly the same way, Boo. Exactly. And the best is yet to come.

I got my hour in on the elliptical tonight. It's been really hard to stick to that being in the middle of a move, but I WILL do it every day, even when it's not convenient.

The weirdest thing happened. I have this friend Carrie at work who is a tiny little thing. She's very athletic and works out with a trainer at the nicest gym in town. (My gym is nice, but hers is in a different class -- Denzel works out there, for example). Anyway, apparently she was talking to her trainer about me because she's doing the 4M race with me next weekend. He got all excited and decided he wants to train me for free! Now, I already have a trainer, but this guy specializes in training runners, so I really think I could learn something major from him. He's going to leave me some free passes to the "celebrity" gym too. Now, you know, I'm going to fall in love with it and join there too (which would be my third gym membership -- absurd!). Funny.

I guess that's all my news for today.

Oh yes, I wanted to talk about next month's challenge. Any opinions? My goal is for the group to get to 20 sessions of 45 minutes by April and hold steady from there. So we have 3 months to increase our time by 5 minutes and our sessions by 3. Do you think we should leave the time alone but up the session by 1, to 18 (since it's a short month), then in March up it to 20, then in April increase the time from 40 to 45? That's what I'm thinking, but I'd love to hear from the rest of you....

Take care,

I'm "secretly" planning to run the NYC marathon in November 2008. That's a long way away, but it's why I'm doing the training runs in 2007 -- to have the option.

THe "celebrity" gym here is an Equinox. For $800/year, you can leave your dirty workout clothes in your locker and they'll wash them for you every day so you don't even have to bring clothes with you. Now $800 is an absurd price, but you see what I mean. Also, they do a "summary" of the NY Times for their clients -- everything important in the paper all in a 2 page xerox. That's my kind of service!

On the elliptical I rotate between TV and music. I listen to music during the commercials, or sometimes the whole time and I just watch (but not listen to) the TV.

Great news about your new training opportunity, Julie! Your commitment to your running goals is truly inspirational.

Regarding the Challenges for February, March, and April: I find the commitment to the number of days much more challenging than the time per session. Once I get motivated to exercise, it hardly makes a difference whether it's 40 or 45 minutes. For that reason alone, I would like to take the number of days in increments of 1. That is, 18 days in February, 19 days in March, 20 days in April. And then to Celebrate our joint one-year bandiversary, we can make April extra special by increasing from 40 to 45 minutes.

I know, I know, I've already exceeded January's Challenge, but I had a rough time in December due to holiday-related stuff and missed the goal by one day.

I TOTALLY echo Bluehill. Because I only run every other day, it is harder for me to meet the session requirements. I do the elliptical or other activities on the other days, or I just work hard on chores, etc. Some workouts aren't cardio, so I don't count them (like walking). I will have to start counting walking or activity that I don't feel is really a workout for me. If we get sick, I don't want us to feel like we failed, either. The time commitment is not a problem.

WHAT IF we have an ELITE" level? We could keep the minimum requirement the same to "pass", but then an "Elite" status or "???" for the month. Something to reach for, instead of deeming anyone a failure. I wouldn't want to see anyone drop off because they couldn't keep up.

Just an idea! I'll go along with the majority.

ELLIPTICAL: Last year I had this goal to read the entire Bible. So everytime I went to the gym, I brought my bible and the latest, mindless People or Us magazine. I would hop on the machine and debate which I should read first. Guess what I picked? The stupid gossip over Jessica Simpson and "Who wore it best?" won out every time. Flipping those pages would eat up at least 30 minutes. Then I felt completely materialistic and selfish and ready to fulfill my obligation and commitment to read scriptures. It worked! I easily got my hour in AND I completed my reading goal!

This year I watch CNN or the cooking channel.

Okay, here it is...

A week ago, a teenager was out walking his dog and hollered to me as I ran. I was on the total opposite side of the street in the whole black scarf, super-wide headband, etc. Well, I saw him tonight and told him I had a very important question to ask.

Me: "How did you know it was me the other night?"

Boy: "I'm really good at recognizing the way people walk."

Me: "But I was running, in the dark, and in black!!"

Boy: "You have a distinctive run. I'm near-sighted and I still knew it was you."

Me: "You're making me think that I run like 'Phoebe' on 'Friends'!"

Boy: "Well... it's not THAT wierd." (Smiled, nodded his head, and we both laughed)

So there it is...at least I run in the dark!

Julie: I pay almost 800 dollars per year in my gym and we have pool, jacuzzi, sauna and some classes, but not that kind of service you are talking about.we cant even have our own locker, you have to take everything back home when you leave,if you want to use their towel you have to pay,and Im not even talking about not getting bottled Water for free.I wish Czech republic was as far with customer service as the USA.oh and our salaries are much much lower than yours like 800dollars per month so this is really expensive gym. I just want that service you guys have!!:-))

Hi Everyone,

Today is my happy day. There was a blizzard last night, so it is beautiful and white this morning.

Well... I wieghed in this morning (I was up a lb last week).

I am so happy to be down three lbs this week. I think my next goal is ... of course onderland.

Julie- wow what a training option!!! Good for you and I don't know how you manage to do it all and move at the same time.

Boo and Bluehill - I agree about the challenge. I would like to increase the number but not the intensity. That suits me better.

Eficka... you live in the Czech Republic? I am planning a trip this summer and hoping to go to Prague or the area for a week or so (with hubby and 2 kids). Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Eficka,

All this time, I thought you were Greek. I have no idea where that came from! No wonder you are a beauty. Czech women are the most beautiful in the world, in my opinion. I have visited your country three times (I used to live in Paris and it was a lovely overnight train ride, so I did it often).

Just in case my post wasn't clear, the $800 is for the laundry only. The gym itself costs about $2,000/year (that does include towels), and to have a locker where you can leave things overnight costs an additional $500/year. So if you want the laundry, in total, you pay about $3300/year. My gym, with locker (but no fancy laundry service) is about $1500/year and is about 70% as nice as the fancy gym.

Regarding next month's challenge:

Does anyone vote to keep it the same, meaning 17 workouts? Have we found our groove? If so, that's totally ok -- whatever we think is best for the group -- I want this to work long term. Plus, anyone who wants to do more can set a personal goal for the month on top of the group goal (a version of Boo's suggestion).

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
