Hey Cindy..that's just awesome about the quilt. It will be such a special one too because your mom started it and you're finishing it. Wow....that's just fantastic and to think of the wonderful memories you'll be thinking as you're all cozied up underneath it. When you do hand quilt it....I think it would be very special to quilt in things that you and mom shared that were extra special. Oh please show us a picture of your work in progress :D

Thanks, Sherry!

What a blessing these quilts are. The quilting group at church just put a quilt in the frame that is also very special. My mom made the top (it's a Civil War antique brick quilt)before her surgery, then she passed away. So my grandma did the binding, and it was in her machine, just finished, the night before the she had the stroke, which caused her death a week later. It gives me chills just thinking about it.

Hey Y'All -

Sorry about the food porn, yesterday. Little did I know it would drag on into today.... My bad!

Today I am back on plan... and I went to the gym last night and did my 30 minutes to burn that cake off. (DH tried to flake - but I dragged him along).

Today I am eating leftover chili - in a moderate/normie quantity.

Tonight, it's back to the gym for more burn.

Mary - Geez - Tamales are like food porn for me... I love Mexican food in all it's incarnations. Mmmmm tamales....anybody have a great recipe for THOSE in the crock pot? :]

Betty - you have to catch me first! I figure with your bum foot, I have a pretty good chance to avoid being slapped. :] That chicken recipe sounds yummy! I might have to try that one, myself. (Dh does MOST of the cooking at home - but once in a blue moon, I knock myself out with something exotic)

Sherry - I love the idea of saucing up the Cacciatori and throwing in the noodles toward the end. One pot cooking at it's finest. Gosh, with all these great recipes, I might have to start cooking more! Of course, I should probably swear off eating, all together! I have been afraid to look at MY scale. Congrats (whispering) on your loss.

Darcy - I won't lie. It was really good. Sorry it would not have mailed well....

Kat - I had fish for dinner, too. We had a little IKEA picnic. I had purchased several items from their little grocery section this weekend - herring in curry sauce was one of them. It was pretty good, if you like that creamed herring. We also had two kinds of cheese (Fontina & PrAst - the a has those little dots over the top) [both excellent]; some salmon pate that comes out of a tube like toothpaste (very good!) and a variety of crackers. To add crunch, I sliced up a cucumber. It was very nice.

Cindy - What can I say? I haven't been very dedicated to the cause, lately. I get motivated for about 5-10 minutes every 2-3 days. Not really conducive to the whole weight loss concept. :nervous Good luck with your quilting. It will be really nice to have those quilts that your DM & DGM worked on. I have an afghan from my great aunt that I treasure. The good news is that great Quilting takes practice - but it isn't rocket science. :]

Eileenie - boo, back. xo.

Well - I am going back out into the flow to see what there is to see.

Hugs and Love to All!

Hiya ladies...

Cindy... THat is so wonderful and really what quilting should be all about. At least that is what it is for me... creating something for someone I care about and hopeing I do it well enough that it will live to see more than one generation and bring memories with it. Hand quilting... not my thang unless it is a large utility stitch... I tried the "rocking" eensie weensie hand quilting stitch class and it just wasn't for me. I do however love hand applique... go figure.

I decided to buy a recipe card holder while I am out today so I can keep it up here by my puter and keep track of all of these great recipes! I'm not sure where I missed the egg muffin one????

Eileen... Boo Back!

SHerry... Psssst.... congratulations... psstt... wtg. :D

Irene... Okay... The whole herring thang makes up for the cake porn in my book...lol. WTG dragging the hubby to the gym...lol... ya done good!

Kat.. The only fish we have for dinner around here is the type that jump onto my hubby's fish hook. I just can't seem to eat anything but really ...REALLY fresh fish. Even then... it has to be fish that isn't very fishy...lol.

Mary... OMIGOSH... I DIE for Italian food... I swear I could nearly munch on garlic cloves for a snack...lol.

Dianne... Did you get back to Curves????

Chris... How is everything???

Pat... Where art thou?

Anne... How's our little working gal today????

Mandy... How's the foot???

Apologies to anyone that I forgot... I keep forgetting to breath when I am doing the stability ball exercises which in turn is leading to HUGE headaches...lol. Today... I kept verbally reminding myself... BREATH ya dork head!

Luv yas.... :kiss2:

Hi everyone! Work is going great, but I'm pooped. My brain muscle is worn out, but I wanted to let you know I'm thinking of y'all. These recipes all sound great - I'm going to try them both!

Time to get the kids in the tub and then collapse. Have a great evening! :)

Oh yeah... my scale is moving a little too!

Ha Ha, Darcy! Don't you like pickled fish? LOL! I really don't know why I even like it. Must be the Norwegian ancestry or something.

Anne - congrats on your first day back! and on the scale. I guess tomorrow I will have to hop on mine to check the damage... *shudder*

Hugs!!

Now thats a cake any bandster could eat...I would think making it out of sugar free pudding would really reduce the cal and make it more band friendly aye? hee hee sorry just had to add something here hahaha

Ok you guys are BAD!!!!

I went to costco my home away from home nd brought this Cereal called GOLEAN Crunch by Kashi. It has 190 calories 9 gms protien 8 gms Fiber and is SO GOOD. It is becoming my new addiction.

I took a cup the other night and ate it like popcorn. This morning I'm having it over yogart. I know its high in calories but it's got the sweetness and the crunch and the fiber and the protien.

And as far as CAKE goes...I had a piece at the rehab last night that my MIL didn't eat...errrrr...unfortinuly it was really good I tried to make it a bite and before I new it the whole thing was gone..funny how that happened!

Good morning!

I weathered the Strategic Planning meeting at DD's school Tues. night, got the quilt laid out yesterday...I forgot how pretty it was! Then Ebay is giving us trouble...I think they changed some stuff, and now we are having trouble uploading pictures. They are in denial that it is on their side, and no matter how many times we have talked to customer service, they keep running us through the same steps to "fix" our computer...but it is the only site that is giving us problems, the only site that is not working properly, and it has the same problems on both computers? Urrrrgh. I'm leaving them alone today, and maybe they'll get a grip? Urrrgh.

Just so you know, if I have a choice, I'd rather read about cake than pickled or creamed herring.

Good for you, Anne! I bet you are tired, but good to hear that you are doing alright back in the working world!

Breathe, Darcy...you big dork head! That crack's me up!

Booooooooo! (goes out to Eileen!)

Hi, Dianne! I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch, too...I put a little in yogurt. All things in moderation. Cereal used to be one of my "addictions" so I am careful not to get into the habit of eating bowls of it...but I still enjoy a little with yogurt, and the fiber part is important, so you can't just not have that!

Jules? Please tell me you are still coming to dinner Thursday night?

Betty...sorry...more cold weather ahead...and rain on top of that! At least, I hope it is just rain.

Sherry, the idea you had about quilting special things into the quilt...there's another unfinished quilt mom was making for my daughter. It is appliqued hearts. I am thinking about having my DD write down things she remembers doing with mom, special memories, then either quilting them or writing them in indelible ink on the hearts or around the hearts. The hearts are in different pastel colors on cream background. She was working on that in the hospital before her surgery. She was the quilter deluxe, I tell you! Always, always, on more than one project. OR, I could write them on the backside of the quilt, inside the quilted part of the heart. I'm thinking it over, so chime in.

Today I'm going to relax for a while...then run some errands.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Cindy

Hi all-

I would like to ask you all to remember my friend Joyce and her family in your prayers---her twin brother was hurt the other day in an accident involving a fork lift, and he passed away late last night. We had all been friends since we were in 2nd grade. In jr high and high school, there were 4 of us girls who run around together. So far all 3 of them have lost a brother, due to some type of crushing accident---and mine was permanently disabled...but in a car crash. Kind of eerie I thought. My friends name was Joel, he leaves behind a wife and 3 sons.

We had more snow last night, it is still snowing, and we are supposed to leave in the morning for Denver. The storm hitting us now is headed north---along the same path we are, and at the same time a storm in Wyoming now is supposed to be moving South towards Denver too---what a time to go. We are taking my MIL, or we may opt out.

Today, I have to go to the DMV, I mailed off to get my tags, but they have not shown up, and they expire today, and we need them! Then I am off to get the taxes done ( a friend who is a CPA does them, the farm write offs, and P&L's are too much for me!!!), then I am going to get tires put on the Explorer, and we will take it to Denver...so we have new tires and 4WD.

My DD is on her way to get the girlie---sure will simplify my day!!! Unfortunately the reason Mama is coming home early----she has pink eye! I am kind of glad I will be gone the next few days---maybe I will avoid it! They of course don't want her dealing with patients, being contagious.

So, I need to get dressed, and be ready to head out...I still need to pack, and my suitcases are in the shed.....and the snow is pretty deep out that part of the shady yard...doggone it! Maybe I will travel in Walmart bags!!!!! I also need to find time to grab some band friendly snack stuff to have on hand---

I will be back later tonight, and catch up on everyone---see how the food porn is progressing---and if a piece of cake jumps into my mouth on my travels today...I'm blaming y'all!

Kat

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
