Post op complications

Recommended Posts

Surgery June 28th. Band removed converted to sleeve. Surgeon took over 4 hours because my spleenic artery had been trapped in the band. He had to manipulate the pancreas to free the artery to the spleen. Long story short I am back in the hospital after 2 ER visits for nausea and extreme pain. Turns out I have pancreatitis. Will be in the hospital for a few more days. Haven't been able to have anything at all by mouth since I got discharged on Saturday. I am so sick. Will update once I am feeling better.

This probably won't make you feel any better...but.....I was in hospital for 5 months for my complications with the sleeve...8 surgeries and now I am finally on my way....

A couple of weeks and your back and going again....I am not minimizing your problems...I think it is good to post these kinds of experiences so that people understand that sometimes it is not a hop, skip and a jump to weight loss for some...

I hope all goes well for you.....

Oh no! :(

I'm so sorry to hear about your complications.

Glad that you are in the hospital and you are getting it taken care of.

Take it easy. Hopefully, this is a small bump in your road to recovery!

I've had pancreatitis (in 1995) and it was PAINFUL. Whenever a nurse asks me to rate my pain from 1-10, I never use a 10 cuz that ones saved for pancreatitis! Hang in there. I think I got a popsicle on day 4. I was out and feeling great day 6. Dr gave me 6 weeks off work but was feeling fine and went back after 2 weeks (nurse)

Pancreatitis is so rare for non-alcoholics. I'd had a procedure the day before to retrieve stones from my bile duct and the dye irriatated my pancreas causing it. ugh. it's so painful. I remember lying on the gurney in the ER literally hanging out the side of it crying/begging for pain meds. They couldn't give me anything till my labs came back. Ass oon as it was confirmed, you betcha I got some meds in my IV!!

Good luck!

I don't drink at all. I got pancreatitis from the surgeon manipulating it to free the entrapped spleen artery that was inside the lapband which had slipped. I'm home doing better but get winded and so wiped out from just alittle activity. Once I came home I had to resume wife and mommy duties so hard.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
