I am hungry!

Recommended Posts

I am just wondering what will keep the hunger away the longest? I am off work right now, but it's going to be hard at work watching other people eat when I am so hungry.

I bought some high Protein oatmeal from the dr. which he said can be used at the liquid stage when it's thinned down with skim milk. It seems to stick with me longer than Protein drinks. I have been staying at my daughter's house for the weekend, and they don't have internet at their house. I just came home for a few minutes to ck the board. I am going to take tues. off work and then I will have time to research the food threads regarding the liquid stage.

I want to thank eveyone again for being so supportive!

Denise

Denise - First, congratulations on your surgery.

Have you tried the Slim Fast Optima Protein shakes? They are enhanced with Protein which keeps you for up to 4 hrs without feeling as hungry. That worked for me. You are lucky your doctor said you were ok w. the oatmeal. My doctor wants me in Clear liquids, except for the shakes of course, for the first 2 weeks. Given you can use the oatmeal, how about trying baby food? It may sound silly, but the consistancy of the baby formula w. skim milk will be even smoother than oatmeal. It is also full of Vitamins given it's for babies. Also, the baby food in jars that has vegies, fruits, even chicken (not that appealing I know) but hey, Protein is protein and it won't last for that long. I'm planning on getting into those on Jan. 9th that I'll be off my "clear" liquids. Just some thoughts that may be helpful. Let me know how that worked.

Happy New Year to everyone

You may want to check with your doctor, they all seem to say different things. Someone also told me that your doctor may let you eat yogurt in the 2nd week post op. But, I want to ask him first. My friend was banded a year ago and she said the 1st week, you are not hungry due to swelling and discomfort. The 2nd/3rd week, you can, most of us, have cream Soups, Protein drinks, yogurt, Jello, pudding, etc.

I also used to take an appetite suppresant my chinese herbalist gave me. They worked really great. If I am too hungry after banding, I will buy some. They are called QuickSlim 30 and you can buy them off the internet also. They have green tea and other really natural ingredients. I don't want to eat what I shouldn't for the first 6 weeks since it raises your chances of slippage and problems.

But, I was told to ask your doctor what he will allow if you are just starving after banding.

Thanks everyone for your support and responses. I don't feel quite as hungry today as I did the first couple of days. I think my stomach is getting used to not having big meals. The oatmeal that I have is some I bought from the dr.'s office. It's not like regular oatmeal. But I have to thin it way down so it's completely soupy. It's pretty high in Protein, I think 20 grams.

I was also wondering, do you still have to wait an hour to drink Water at this stage, since the band is wide open with no fills? I have been doing that and it's really hard. Once I get to eat food, it's REALLY going to be hard! I watch the clock to see when I can have a drink. I seem to be thirsty all the time. I guess that's good.

I will try the slim fast optima and see if it sticks with me any longer. I am just thrilled that this has basically been pain free. I am really surprised!

Thanks again:)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
