Hi everyone,

I sort of lurked around a little before signing up, but decided today would be the day I'd sign up and finally introduce myself. I'm Jen, married to DH Greg, and we have one son (4 years old).

I've been overweight most of my life, but really started to gain alot about 11 years ago. I've done several diets and lost weight only to gain that and then some back (as most here I'm sure can relate).

Last year, my Dad was on the verge of a heart attack and had to be rushed in for surgery to place a stent. Then my Uncle (Dad's brother) passed away at Christmas due to heart problems. Not to mention my Dad found out he is a diabetic last year.

So all of this has really scared me into action. I'll be 30 in a year and a half and I don't want to see another 10 years go by and be as unhealthy as I am now.

I've already contacted my insurance company (BCBS of MN) and they will cover the surgery if I have 1 year of documented weight programs and a BMI of 40. Well, I don't have the 1 year of documented programs. I've always tired the fad diets.;)

Well, I've made this long enough.;) I look forward to talking to everyone and learning more about how this new way of life works.

I just had the Lap Band this past Thursday and had t covered by BCBS. If you have any co-Morbid factors like thyroid disease, diabetes (or borderline diabetes), acid reflux or others, then you dont need the one yea. Find out - maybe you can have it sooner. Ididnt have the year long weight and my BMI was under 40. Since I had some of the co-morbid actors, I didnt have to wait. Hope this is helpful and good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
