Not to, ever. The carbonation is (apparently) bad for the sleeve. I have transitioned to Water, lemonade, etc. I am not perfect. I do drink coffee. Not much and mostly Decaf.< /p>

Never to drink it, it is a life long change.

No carbonation until 30 days post-op...and then only if I want to/am comfortable with it.

Caffeine, on the other hand, is just fine - been drinking coffee since my first week post-op.

I was told carbonation will expand your stomach. It's bad for you anyway.

While my surgeon did say absolutely no carbonated drinks he doesn't hold that opinion of caffeine. When I told him I had also given up caffeine he said I didn't have to. He said caffeine is perfectly fine.

I found a Water with caffeine in it! It's called avitae. You can get it with 45 or 90 mg in it. I got a good deal ob it from Office Depot it's about 1 dollar a bottle. I work overnight so I couldn't give up caffeine. But I do miss my diet coke!

My instructions were no carbonation for the first six weeks and then after that diet sodas were fine as long as they felt comfortable in the sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
