Was I Invisible Before?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery as soon as I got out of school so no one actually seen me, but I did post a picture on Facebook when I hit the 50 lb mark. (Picture attached). Suddenly, guys that wouldn't give me the time of day are striking up conversations with me just to chat. People keep telling me it's because I have new found confidence, but this is solely based on one picture I posted since we're not in school right now. Was I really invisible before? Because I'm sure with the comments that got made about me, no one thought I was easily not seen! Ugh, sometimes it's just so hard to take the new attention knowing all those years I was ignored simply because of my size.

You are beautiful and yes, everyone treats me differently now, even women. It is sad but very noticeable! I like the way you put it... "invisible". That is exactly what it seems that we were but now everyone wants to talk and act like you are "normal". Just continue the good work! YOu are doing great!

Keep up the good work! Remember that you have a choice of who you want to associate with. If they didn't give you the time of day pre-op, I wouldn't associate with them post-op. However, if you did not know them pre-op, give them the benefit of the doubt post-op.

I feel like I used to be a ghost. Some people seemed incapable of seeing me, and the others that could see me.. would stare. I got pretty used to it over the years .. sometimes I'm still floating through the world & don't get it when someone is trying to get my attention to speak to me. A friend tried telling me that it was all in my head. That people are speaking to me more now because I'm holding myself differently, more confident & inviting.. but honestly.. I don't believe that's true. I still see myself as I did before.

I think it's a combo of both them and us. But to answer the post question...YES we were invisible when we were heavier! Sad but true. But clearly you're not invisible anymore so enjoy that while keeping a critical eye of who all of a sudden noticed you.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
